Theres this illusion of depth and charm that comes from putting you in this vast unexplored world. But then you activate most of the towers and visit most of the villages and realize that there wasnt much reward for doing so.

The game environment is absolutely phenomenal and Im still impressed at how much mileage Nintendo got out of relatively few assets to build a variety of unique and believable ecosystems. Just needed some more memorable stuff to go in it. And probably an expanded score. They really fell flat in that department.

Im disappointed. I realize how difficult it would be, but could you imagine Majoras Mask with these mechanics?

tl;dr best variant of the mile-wide foot-deep analogy Ive seen, but lacks heart. OoT, MM, and WW are still the best Zelda games.

Older games might be better but Botw is fuckin phenominal.

Hit towers, do shrines. recapture divine beasts. I beat it in like 4 days, it's tough but I like it that way

The music does suck. not a memorable score save for the remixed tracks from the old games

The Zora chapter is my favorite. it fuckin makes me sad everytime I hear Mipha's voice

double since Mipha's Grace literally saved me and allowed me to beat ganon on the first go

I'm still playing it. Love it. Playing it right now actually. Did a normal run through and doing one on master mode. Working on expanding all my stashes to the max at the moment.

If you want some direction, north west is the uhh...idk. Bird people's Divine beast.

You do that and get an ability to launch yourself into the air. Probably the most useful thing in the entire game

It's a fun experience, but ultimately it's closer to Minecraft than a real Zelda entry.

Yes the master mode is dlc. It's just a higher difficulty. Not a NG+. You start from the beginning. But enemies can take more damage and regen health as well. Plus there's a higher tier of each enemy; gold.

I think it's worth it. Master Mode and there's a Gauntlet trial are the most in game additions. Outside of two armor items, the rest are strictly cosmetic. There's suppose to be one more DLC addition doing something to do with the ending of the game but it hasn't dropped yet.

ending spoilers

Kind of sucks. Ganon's fight was fine but after he fucked off zelda's just like "oh, thanks" and BAM. credits

I was also disappointed that you never return or do anything at the temple of time

and an ocarina woulda been nice

I started it last week. it seems like fun and is engaging me more than most open-world games do, but I see what you mean
although, I haven't done anything with the main quest. I got to the first village to meet Impa and decided to leave to go to another tower. I have made it all the way to Central Tower, Ridgeland, Hebra, etc. among others, trying to get them all for some reason before starting the quest

haven't even done any shrines yet

yeah I know. I'm actually gonna get another circle of stamina first and then go up the hearts until I can get the master sword then switch back to stamina

I wished I'd went for stamina initially first time I played.

Also if you want a semi spoiler tip
do the rito divine beast first. you'll thank me

You think so?
I skipped out on that, didn't get a single piece of extra stam the whole game and still had trouble finding shrines for my 12th/13th heart

Paragliding is so fun. I'm playing the witcher now and constantly have the urge to jump off cliffs and glide

Yeah that was my advice. Falco's ability is near godlike

&extra stamina is such a waste. you start off with all you need

I do. If you make use of hearty items in foods/potions it negates your need for permenant hearts. Since climbing, a main mode of travel, takes stamina I find it much more useful to start. But that's just me.

Also my route on replays for divine beasts

zora
gerudo
goron

heh early on first time I played I spent an entire afternoon chasing that damn boar for cold resist potions

Just slap on that bandana that makes you climb faster, don't leap until you're sure you can make it. had no trouble

then most of the game my link was shirtless, cause screw armor. I needed all the hearts I could get

Calling this a foot deep is dumb. Like what do you need, a new side-quest NCP every ten steps? There's plenty to do.

Depth refers to quality, not quantity.
