Board 8 > Why do pubs blare music insanely loud

My cousin guilted me into a pub night with a cover fee and a silent auction to support her kids hockey team

So I think "okay, I'll go chill with some people I know, have a few beers and eat some pub food, maybe bid on some stupid shit, and just chat"

So that's what we do, for a good hour. Just hanging out shooting the shit

Then this band shows up and starts playing this music in Spanish. The music itself is fine, I don't hate it or anything. But holy fuck is it LOUD

Like I cannot hear the people next to me at my table. We can try shouting at eachother but it's still hard to hear. This is miserable.

Why do people do this. Who enjoys this. This isn't a big dance club. This is a cozy little pub to chat over wings at.

I hate this. I am fuming. God fucking damn it. I bid on some shit in the auction so I can't even leave. I gotta sit here unable to talk for 2 hours until the auction is finished. I feel like my night is ruined

You can't really play instruments too softly, especially if a drum kit is involved. The drum kit will naturally be louder, which means the other instruments need to be louder so it's not all drums. Jazz clubs on the other hand will often be softer, because the drummer regularly uses brushes instead of sticks.

They are amplifying it on the speakers though for NO REASON

I've been to plenty of chill pubs that don't do anything like this. I really don't understand the ones that do.
