Weve all got a couple that, even if you enjoyed it, quite literally gave you some minor trauma

My biggest one was probably P.T. I still see Lisa coming around corners or through doorways in the dark at night, and I havent played it since it released. That one little game just fucked with me so bad. I think its the first person perspective and lack of recourse (in the form of running, shooting, or gamey gameplay) that made it so visceral for me.

probably The Painted Bird by Kosinski.

it's about a swarthy boy and the horrors he experienced in Eastern European rural areas during WW2.

apparently, it's supposed to be autobiographical, so that makes it worse

The Demonata. Sounds lame, but I couldn't finish the series. Started having nightmares and just....couldn't.

Duuuuude @meestermj that chapter early in Lord Loss where he walks in on the slaughter of his parents had me set the book down, fucked up for a couple days lolol

Poor teen me had just come from Cirque du Freak, so here I am expecting similar content. NOPE

Though I found my cure in getting over that one was just to forge onwards. Really got swept up in the story and desensitized a bit. Never met anyone else that read them, pretty good stuff for YA (...ish) horror

Any small consolation, its fictional. Big controversy about how he had claimed it was autobiographical and turned out not so much.

My parents had it on tape and my brother put it on when I was like 5 or 6. Had to wake my parents up to take me to the bathroom for a good while after that lol

The only thing that ever scared me was when I saw Halloween as a kid. That mask is genius in how simple yet effective it is. Seeing that shit look at you from across a darkened room, yeah.

It's not a traditional horror film but Lost Highway (David Lynch) fucked me up and gave me anxiety for days and I still get uncomfortable when I think about it.

Stephen King's Revival fucks me up if I think about it. The ending of that book is extremely goddamn depressing.

The protagonist catches a glimpse into the afterlife. He sees an endless parade of tortured souls forced to march through the ruins of a city. Horrible ant-like creatures watch over them, descending and attacking them when they fall until they get back up. The sky is full of "howling stars" which are actually where the sky's ripped itself open into a void where the entity known only as Mother resides. The only part of her the he sees is a long claw covered with the screaming faces of the dead.

The best part? It's said outright that this afterlife isn't just for sinners or bad people, it's the fate of every single human being.

Lovecraft is quoted in the book.

That is not dead which can eternal lie, And with strange aeons even death may die.
