connection at college for the Nintendo Switch?!?

I bought the Lan Adapter, but it couldn't find the IP Address, so I manually entered the IP address I found after going through command prompt.

Did what Nintendo said for DNS servers, but it says it cannot perform DNS name resolution.

I just want to play the 2nd DLC for Zelda. Can someone please help me out?

Thank you.

Go to someones house with WiFi and download the dlc.

You could also set up a router from the wall and skip the whole wired thing

That is what I did, but it didn't work.

I also tried both the regular IP and the +20 IP (adding 20 to the last part of the IP address) as that is what Nintendo said to do.

If you put the same number you saw there in the switch, that may be part of the problem. Each device should have a unique IP address.

For example:

If you did ipconfig and saw:

IP: 192.168.0.50
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.0.1

Then try putting 192.168.0.75 as the IP in the switch and the same subnet mask and default gateway as you saw in command prompt.

Yeah, at first I did that, but remembered reading that the IP would be slightly different. Nintendo said to add 20, and I did, but unfortunately it still didn't work.

OK. Are you just plugging the switch directly into that jack? If so, does your computer have a static IP set on it?

If it does have a static IP, there is a possibility that the college has a system that registers your computer's MAC address as an allowed device and the switch's LAN adapter may need to be added to that system.

Looks like static IP addresses have to be specifically asked for, and they offer DHCP-based IP address assignment. So essentially as long as they're allowing your MAC address, you should just be able to plug it in. You may benefit from having a router so you can have multiple devices plugged in at once, though. I'd check to see if they allow that.

Essentially, the router would plug into the wall jack and get the IP on the "external" interface, and then it would have "internal" interfaces for your devices to plug into and get IP addresses from the router itself.

I am sorry if my questions are dumb, I'm just not knowledgeable about technology at all.

Is there a reason that the cable worked perfectly for my Xbox one, but it doesn't work with my Switch. The only difference is the LAN adapter, which lead me to believe that the LAN adapter is the problem.

If it doesn't need to be registered, I'm curious then why it doesn't work.

DHCP resolved on the Xbox One while now you're manually doing the IP on the Switch.

The lan adapter is just a means to get ethernet to the switch. Choose DHCP and if it shoukd work if your college allows it. There could always be a port blocked on the router that the Switch uses that the Xbone doesn't, in which case you're probably sol unless you can get IT to open it.
