Dude's an evil executive type, so his goal is pretty much just to make money. To accomplish this, he researches shrinking technology and builds the Yellowjacket suit. The issue is that the shrinking technology isn't quite up to par with Pym's stuff, so it simply turns whatever it shrinks into goo. His plan is to put the shrinking tech in the Yellowjacket suit and sell it to HYDRA and mercenaries.

And the reason this is the dumbest fucking thing in the world is that the Yellowjacket is essentially an Iron Man suit-lite which the military and mercenaries would already pay a shitload of money for. And shrinking technology, even if it does turn stuff into goo, would change the entire fucking world. No more trash problem, simply zap it. Radioactive waste? Probably not quite as radioactive when it's dime sized goo. And we see later in the movie that this same thing can be reversed, making an ant grow to the size of a small dog. Imagine that with crops. Or meat.

Dude's dumb as fuck.

It's not really a flaw in the movie because it's a silly movie that embraces its comic-bookiness moreso than the other MCU ones.

The character's just a dumb person.

Iron Mans suit cant shrink, though. The Yellowjacket could.

I would argue the villain of Guardians 2 is dumber, if only for the fact that I cant even make out a discernible plan. Befriend his long lost son so they can rule the universe together like God and Jesus? And despite being a fucking god, he ends up losing.

To be fair, Cross was mentally compromised by exposure to the Pym particles, which is something the movie specifically mentions in the tech-speak.

By comparison, Diamondback is just awful with his paper thin Freudian excuse. Also Justin Hammer is completely ruined by his adaptation in IM2.

He didnt have the power to do it alone so he slept with a bunch of females in the universe to find someone who would give an offspring that has his powers. Oh, and he would kill each female along the way so he could send a group of Ravagers to collect said kid.

Ego couldn't execute the plan of assimilating the universe under his own power, and his connection to the planet meant he couldn't leave it for any length of time without dying. He needed another being like itself to give him a power boost, but there were no other beings like himself. So he needed to procreate and connect that offspring to the planet. Thus the plot of GotG2.

it was pretty wacky, but even the failed shrink ray that turned things into goop would have sold for a ton. He murdered that dude straight up and was able to wipe away all the evidence with a tissue.

Really guys? If you're working on new technology, you don't want to sell it before it's complete, even if you can still make money. That gives competitors a lot more time to reverse engineer your work, and even surpass you then render your incomplete project obsolete and worthless. The goo laser isn't so incredible that it could make up for that, especially in this universe with Hammertech and Vulture's market.

As for the suit itself, the same principal applies. Yeah, he could have sold it as a knock off Ironman suit, but it wouldn't have any attributes that make it truly stand out. It could have made money, but not as much as it could if they released a finished product. If anything, they could have sold individual systems like the shoulder mounted lasers. And honestly, they probably did. The company has been making money doing something, they're not entirely reliant on their big project.

Don't forget that his business model wasn't to simply "sell the suit." He was the only one that could make the fuel for it, and that's where virtually all the profit would come from.

And really, his goal isn't just "to make money." He also wants to prove that he doesn't need Pym. He wants to prove that he's better, he wants to crush Pym's legacy, and cheapen his life's work. He needed the suit to be ready to do that.
