Board 8 > AIM Mafia 10-Year Anniversary + AIM Shutdown

The first night of AIM mafia played by board 8 was on December 16th, 2007.

AIM is going to be shut down permanently on December 15th, 2017.

It's been 10 years. (Sadly, it's off by one day)

I think, in honor of AIM, and to celebrate our 10-year anniversary, we should have one last night of mafia, played on AIM.

I propose Thursday the 14th. I am too busy on the other nights this week, (I could maybe do Wednesday), and even on Thursday, I won't be able to stay up late, so we'd have to keep it short. And it's the last day AIM will be online. I could also do a night this weekend, but it may be too short notice.

I know AIM is archaic and we'd be better off playing on Discord or anything else, but I think it's only fitting to say goodbye to AIM with one last night of tribute games. (And yes, we'd have to download old versions of AIM, since the new ones don't support chats)

Who would be interested in this? And if so, are you okay with the 14th?

Oh I haven't used aim in years, didn't hear about this before now.

I tried downloading both versions here, but neither of them let you actually log in.

The current version of AIM can no longer be downloaded from AOL's website.

Also, making a new AOL/AIM account now requires you to enter your phone number, which they send a code to that you can't log in without.

So I'm not sure how to proceed.

www.aim.com still works, it's just... lame and not really anything like the program we used.

Also chat rooms haven't been supported for years.

It supports "chats" as in you can invite everyone into one message window and the window will be called "Dels, Para, Gravy, Wigs, Reg, and 25 others" or something like that

But the interface is really... shitty.

But seriously you can't sign up for an account without entering your real phone number, so hopefully you remember your account OR you're okay with AOL having your number.

I used AIM AOL Instant Messenger basically every single day of my life from sometime in 1999 until just this exact moment. My first acct was PIAZZAPIZZA2000. I used a super old version until its support died ~4 years ago then moved it to Pidgin. Farewell, love.
