Uh, I used to live on Mt. Hood Oregon where the base has usually over 185 inches of snow.

People in Georgia do not have chains. They don't have studded tires. They are inexperienced in driving on black ice or snow and by closing schools and stores, a real state of emergancy is being avoided by the lack of idiots driving on the roads.

To be fair it hasn't snowed like this near Atlanta in a long time. I woke up to about 2 feet of snow this morning and it was still snowing earlier.

Exactly. GAs been a state for a while and snow usually comes once a year yet the plan is to just go home if any snow occurs. We call ANY snow a blizzard.

That's dumb, it's always raining here. Atlanta had more rain days last year than Seattle. The state of emergency is done for snow because unlike other states GA doesn't put aside money for salt trucks and other resources to clear the roads as it can go years without actually getting snow.

I can easily drive my pos sentra anywhere fine. I believe all theatres are closed for example among many others.

The roads are legit messed up though. I was driving home last night, and kept losing control of my vehicle. Shit was scary.

Georgia isn't like northern states where it has the equipment to salt/plow roads as effectively, so snow creates a legitimate public safety issue that they're not ready to deal with.

Georgia isn't special. This same thing happens for every southern state that doesn't get snow, which is all of them.

Try actually moving to a state that actually sees snow fall. Then you have no excuse. It snowed 2 feet last night? Dig your car out, you are STILL expected at work on time.

Where in GA do you live? I'm over here in Austell and again we got at least 2 feet of snow.

I used to dig 6 feet of snow from the TOP of my car, the FRONT of my car AND around my car before going to work EVERY DAY.

Actually, that kind of weather is hell on a car. It fucking ran like shit after one season.

my brother used to live near atlanta and a couple years ago when it was just a few inches of snow he looked up google maps and saw all the wrecks and traffic that he would have had to go through. he just called off that day since he didn't want to deal with people not knowing how to drive through snow

What time?

I took my daughter to her grandmas from alpharetta to norcross at 8pm yesterday. Was fun to see the snow honestly. Picked her up from school early too at 2pm, no problem.

The main problem with that storm a couple of years back was not the snow but the freezing rain that occurred. Many people had to abandon their cars on 285 because of the accidents. I remember driving home from work in that mess, what normally took me 30 minutes ended up being 6 hours and I was one of the lucky ones.

Fortunately I lived in NJ so I know how to drive in snow as they get buried every year and you just deal with it. Georgians just simply don't know how to drive in ice, too many people floor the accelerator thinking that will get them out of a bind.

In places where snow is rare, obviously they don't have the infrastructure to deal with it, so yeah it's a bigger deal.

We got about a foot of snow here in Powder Springs. It's the most I've seen in this area since at least the 90s.

IIRC the southern states also use a different material/topping on their roads that compounds the negative effects of snow and freezing rain.

But really 2 feet of snow at once is a fucking lot especially for places that have absolutely zero reason to keep sanding trucks on standby and deploy an army of road graders to clean the streets.

It is not that odd. Compare it to Chicago. Chicago has a fleet of trucks to salt and plow the roads while Atlanta has barely any.
