I haven't played Halo in years. Did they tone anything down in 5?

It has no human blood splatter, and no human blood at all in multiplayer.

The original Halo trilogy had M ratings primarily because of the Flood. It featured a lot of dismemberment. Also as I've heard what really got the ESRB's panties in a bunch was the Food infection animation in the first game.

Reach had the M rating for reasons unknown, likely either the blood splatter (despite no Flood gore) or a decision to deliberately seek that rating with the ESRB.

Robot enemies have replaced the Flood as well.

I don't remember how the alien blood was in Halo 5. Not sure if that impacts the rating. CE was always the most bloody IIRC.

If anything, Halo is to soft with their weapons. Plasma grenades should be painting the walls and floors red and plasma weaponry should be melting things.

In the books, which the games have directly referenced, plasma grenades splatter blood everywhere.

Halo 5 was rated Teen because of less blood, robot enemies, and no human blood to my knowledge.
