Specifically I'm seeing it with music gear, but that's because I do most of my googling about that. Used to be, I'd search a product, be it guitar, amp, pedal, whatever, and roughly half of the first page would be topics on gear forums. This is still largely the case with vintage equipment and smaller companies. However, try googling a current production Fender or Gibson, and all I see is pages to buy; even appending "review" to the search turns up nothing but retail sites.

Has anyone else noticed anything similar with their searches?

That's probably to do more with the practice of companies hiring "ad firms" that artificially inflate your results. As automation for the process improves, and more companies doing it to compete, the result is that any site that isn't shilling out to be on the first page is naturally pushed back.
