But what exactly does "shoving diversity down your throat" mean? Because most of the time I see it used is people complaining about a main character or most of the main characters being non-white men.

I mean, you can't really say something is being shoved down your throat when it doesn't affect you either way. People will then say, "It feels insincere" and, "They're just pandering". To whom?

That's only sometimes true. It depends.

1. Do you have to sacrifice anything to have diversity? If not, then you literally only benefit from diversity for the sake of diversity.

2. Are you doing something publicly facing that could benefit from diverse viewpoints? Then you gain from diversity.

3. Are you trying to appeal to a diverse group of people? Then you benefit by having diversity.

4. Are you removing competent staff to replace with inept "diverse" workers? well, no, that's stupid, but this happens far less than people like you actually think it does.

I don't have a problem with diversity, but I do have a problem with the notion that diversity is strictly based on ethnicity, as if our ethnic backgrounds are the only things that separate us as human beings. Remember that whole thing with the Apple PR woman? She basically said that there's more to diversity than skin color; that a room full of white people or black people or so on is still diverse because those people all have different life experiences and backgrounds. She of course was forced to apologize and step down from her position.

And of course there's the radical left definition of diversity basically being the absence of white, which is just ludicrous. There's more to human beings than just skin color.

What I was referring to with that point above is more so government slogans (particularly in Australia) where they go on and on about it, but then fail to mention that certain diverse people are totally reductive to society.

Yeah. But I'd like to think that maybe if instead of these autocratic theocracies we've got up in the middle east, if there was, for example a mandatory amount of Sunni, Shia, and minority religion (christians / hindu / etc), there would be a lot less slaughtering each other. The reason why Islam got as awful as it did is because a single point of view became too prominent and too powerful and removed the diverse competing opinions.

There is an enormous difference between the average muslim american vs the average saudi muslim. A lot of muslim women in America don't even wear hijabs nor does the qur'an say they should.
