Tho i am noticing a trend with these, where the ones with good horn bevels have ugly/boring wood grain, and the ones with cool grain have poop beveling. I wish Gibson would automate the woodworking more so they'd all have nice deep bevels.

SGs are the most interesting Gibsons because you can tell when the person who made it was someone who was just doing a job, and when it was someone who loves guitars and has respect for smaller historical details. Those horn bevels tell a lot.

Don't like the finish, but I've been wanting a real SG for years. I've been using an Epihone SG for the last 5 years since I can't afford a Gibson.

The 2001 teal "flip flip" model is pretty much my dream one; based on looks, at least:

Nah that's the Faded, which is basically a stick with a pickup and an output jack.

The special is basically usually just an alternate feature and slightly less "deluxe" standard. Similar/same build quality, but usually no binding, satin nitro instead of gloss (which honestly makes them a tiny bit better for gigging, imo), and usually traditional tuners rather than locking.

I have a 2017 Standard in heritage cherry and it's become my favorite guitar to play. So light and so versatile.

Yeah you're right. I remember now. I haven't looked at gibsons for about 5 years or so and a grand seemed on the cheap side.
