Things change, things evolve. If you feel like it's time to take the next step and move on, do it amicably with respect and decency. A graceful bow-out that gives you some room to come back to it in one shape or form or just disappear all together. If I were you, i would just start living life assuming that the relationship is already done. If you see her, you see her; and thats fun. If you don't, then that's fine because you are going to become "mentally single". Unless you guys live together or have kids, then it shouldn't be a problem.
