Welcome to Star Wars week on Board 8- a new poll every day until the release of The Last Jedi! Search "star" to cast your votes all this week.

Yesterday's Result: Everyone loves Luke vs Vader, with those battles stealing nearly half the votes cast. It was a hard-fought affair but their duel in The Empire Strikes Back took the cake, narrowly edging the final confrontation in Return of the Jedi. The Bronze Medal was a tie between the Phantom Menace finale and Obi/Anakin in Revenge of the Sith. Everything else had some support though as well (except for Anakin dominating Dooku in Sith which didn't get a single vote).

Today's Question: Will Darth Vader win the 2018 GameFAQs All-Fictional Character Battle?

Hypothetical Scenario: SB sets up a 128 character 1v1 bracket for next Summer that's a callback to 2006. All former winners are moved to the Tournament of Champions, the left side of the bracket features the strongest remaining 64 returning characters, the right side features 64 never-before-seen characters who have appeared in video games (but didn't originate there).

Which new character would emerge victorious out of those 64 unknowns?

Segregating the bracket is a fucking terrible idea. If he does this it should just be all the characters thrown into one bracket and seeded based on noms.

Edit: ToC for previous winners is fine though.

I agree, I want to see the new characters mixed in with the old classics throughout the bracket, will freshen up the whole Contest.

Sure, that's why I had to make him two steps removed to make Vader's "win" possible.

Speaking of which, look at Star Wars tearing it up on the main page today. Half the site will see it within the first 36 hours, and 75% plus plan to check it out at some point. Very promising for 2018!

The HP series is a huge deal on this site and internet-wide and I wanted to give it a spot in this poll, yeah, but backed off for a few reasons.

- everyone who was a pre-teen/teen at the time read the books, and most also watched the movies, but I don't feel like the momentum carried over to the gaming world to the extent that it has for Marvel and DC and DBZ and the rest of the options

- everyone loves the wizarding world and wishes they could have gone to Hogwarts, but Harry himself is a wet blanket that I don't think people would rally behind. Hermione's the fan-favorite, but I don't know how well that would translate to GameFAQs

- I'm betting successful new characters are going to be powered by '90s nostalgia, this website might be a little too old to have gotten into full on Potter-mania to the extent that the rest of the internet did

I was trying to think of characters that could potentially stop Vader and that was the only thing I could think of that you hadn't listed. I think it's pretty much between Vader and Batman, they're the only two that are universal, beloved, and just generally cool enough

Batman's win doesn't surprise me, but I didn't expect him to run away with the Contest THIS easily. We'll see if he can live up to expectations next year.

The surprise of this thread, for me at least, is the strong showing for Goku. I get it though; he's definitely the stand out option versus all these super heroes and expecting the internet to rally behind anime is always a good bet.
