Leia survived the space plunge?

Aside from that, I felt like the movie was so damn long.

Yeah that was legit terrible.

Not that it doesn't make sense. The Force kept her vitals going, kept her from depressurizing, gave her the ability to fly, etc.

It's terrible for so many other reasons, including:

1. Princess Leia flew through space.
2. Why even blow up the bridge if she was gonna survive?
3. Why have Ren not blow up the bridge if someone else was just gonna do it?
4. Princess Leia flew through space.
5. Now they have to kill Leia off-camera between installments when they had a perfectly fine death scene.
6. She was effectively useless afterwards anyway. She did nothing another character couldn't have, except go "haha I can use to Force now because I'm a Skywalker" and literally the one time characters want her to make a decision, she says "lol don't look at me.'
7. Princess Leia flew through space.

Those criticisms are rather lame. It's like when people complain that the Finn and Rose subplot didn't add anything to drive the main plot (except that it set-up the final act on the former base).

That's what it feels like

But I wonder why they would film scenes after that with her in them, in that case.

I'm surprised they didn't rewrite it to kill her off. They had plenty of time with very few changes to make.

I actually like the part where she rescues herself. It shows she's been practicing since 6. Surviving the explosion that put her there in the first place, though...

They should've just had the bridge blown up, but with her still in the bridge area, instead of her floating back to it.

It wouldn't have been the best way to kill her off. It was obvious from the moment the explosion happened that she was getting out of it alive somehow as there was no real buildup to it.

I'm not doubting that logically it could've happened in the Star Wars universe, it just looked really fucking stupid from a theatrical point of view

It made sense, but it seemed so cheap it looked ridiculous, not story-wise, but in that she came back in one pose that looked superman-esque, hence it being ridiculous. I mean, Leia being alive could be heartwarming or relieving, but the visuals in general made it hilarious instead.

Ben should have been the one to float her back using the Force while she was unconscious.

Instead it was like

"No, I can't kill her, she's my mother"

*Tie buddy destroys the bridge*

"Ah, oh well"

Imagine actually thinking this.

"Our actress died, so let's make her part bigger!"

Right after she died, they openly said that they had already been filming her parts for episode 9.

That part didn't bother me too much. You can actually survive in outer space for up to 2 minutes without any protective gear, although you lose consciousness after about 10-15 seconds. Didn't seem like she was out for so long that she couldn't have survived, assuming no blast damage.

From an in-universe design point, it does raise the question of why the bridge is so exposed like that. They have view screens, bury the bridge in the heart of the ship.
