I think it's doing OK. They just released the first "season content" (or... content season idk) with a new map and heroes.
I mean the problems that existed on launch are still more or less there but the playerbase is still strong enough.

I was playing today.

It's doing good.

Honestly, people got what they wanted so there is no reason to be mad at this point. I sort of had sympathy for other gamers, until EA buckled. Worse, they are handing out all the new content for free, so the microtransaction thing actually seemed like a nice compromise.

I mean, yeah, it was shifty, but honestly, the game took every bit of criticism about the first one and corrected it.

At its core, it's fun. The progression kinda sucks, but they made earning credits really easy now, so it's not as bad.

The microtransaction thing was a terrible compromise since it comprised a huge basis for character progression.

Also I don't think the complaining was overblown at all.
I don't know how the game is currently but on launch it had terrible map rotations (you could play a few hours in a row and only play on the same four maps), terrible matchmaking (if the player count dropped below the minimum threshold at the end of a match, you basically had to quit and find another game because no one would get slotted to join yours, even if you only needed a couple of people), and terrible progression system (credits awarded at the end of the match were based on time played, meaning people just add to devise a system to constantly input controls and then they could just go AFK and do whatever the heck they wanted to and get the same amount of credits as someone who legitimately played. Also it meant that certain game modes awarded more credits than others).

I've been playing it the past two or three days now but I've had it since launch basically.

I'm having fun but its really only fun in short bursts. I only really enjoy the starfighter assault and theres only 6 maps and I dislike the 2 sequel Era maps so there's really only 4 maps for me... <_<

We're in the middle of TLJ season atm so it's favoring sequel maps but I've found groups with full map rotations

I figured it was something like this. I wonder if it does have some weighting normally, though, since I probably only played Naboo like once, and yet Starkiller has been on pretty much every playlist I've joined.

Pay to win did it in. Most people don't mind loot boxes unless that applies.

I still don't really get how it was pay to win. You get handed credits and crafting supplies to make what you want and upgrade it. You can also buy the loot boxes. Buying loot boxes basically only allows you to experiment with the stuff you didn't choose.

Before adjustments, it was something like 200 hours of play to grind up enough materials to upgrade a star card to max, versus a loot box. Not sure what the rate is now, but pay to win doesn't mean you can only pay to get the good equipment. It can also mean an unreasonably long grind versus being able to buy everything.

The level of credits you get from a match is minimal, and the crafting supplies from a crate is minimal.

Thus, if you can simply buy a crate, after buying 10 of them, you can have a fully upgraded star card which gives you superior abilities to other players - think Darth Vader having 250 extra health, gains extra health for each enemy defeated and has a lightsaber throw that goes 100m instead of 15m - instead of having to play the 100 if not more matches that would take you.

It's not formatted like Battlefield at all despite being by the same devs and having a fairly similar structure. That is to say, 99% of your upgrades/star cards (with the exception of a few weapon mods and a couple of crates you get for completing challenges) come from crates you spend credits on, and not from actually just playing the game.

And it would take you a ridiculous amount of time to get the same amount of crates that a person who just spent even $20 would get.

You're not guaranteed anything in the loot boxes, there's no choice outside of the generic type of loot crate you're going for (starfighter, hero or soldier).

Well it's been adjusted quite a bit.

Honestly, though, I'm struggling to think of an online game that doesn't have a serious adjustment period when it comes to balance.
