If you read none of this about how I did something super hard and was happy about it, basically I'm interesting in hearing about the hardest stuff B8 has done in video games. Go post and tell me about it.

Horizon Zero Dawn is a challenging game, but not necessarily super difficult. Even on Ultra Hard, it never really feels very unfair. You just have to be really smart and time your rolls right when you're facing something one on one.

Horizon Zero Dawn's expansion, The Frozen Wilds, is a whole nother fucking story.

This shit is HARD. This shit is REALLY hard.

The new machine types in the expansion are way more aggressive and powerful than the ones in the main game, and at two or three different points in the missions, you have to fight two of the big bad ones at the same time. This would be no problem if I were on a lower difficulty because I could probably take a few hits and still be relatively okay. Still challenging, but not unfair. I am not playing on a lower difficulty. I am on Ultra Hard, the highest difficulty. Everything pretty much two-hit kills you and sometimes you'll get knocked down only to be immediately hit again, so you can get OHKO'd. Not only that, but health replenishing plants don't heal you as much and I'm pretty sure the enemies stay under status effects for less time.

Also, Horizon locks you into your difficulty selection on NG+, which is what I was on, so I am locked into this shit.

Completed the main expansion missions, which was pretty ridiculously hard on its own. At the very end, they introduce the biggest and baddest new motherfucker - the Fireclaw. This bitch is... oh lord. It's pretty frustrating. Then, in one of the side missions, they send two of those at you at the same time. I had to somewhat cheese that fight by somehow luring one into a spot where the other didn't notice me at first, so I could kill the first and then take care of the second. So I did that.

Then there were the hunting trials. These don't seem like they were made to be hardly possible at all on Ultra Hard, although they are. One of them gives you 55 seconds to use the crappiest new weapon to kill 6 normal machines and then 1 ravager machine, which is a big bad bitch who takes a lot of damage. The strategy is basically to tie everything down with the rope weapon, then go bomb the ravager till he's almost dead and finish him off with the crappy gun, then go kill everything else. But you have to be nearly perfect to pull this off in the time limit, and you have to have all of your weapons decked out with the right modifications - basically all the best modifications for damage and handling. I did it with 2 seconds left.

I have now done everything in the frozen wilds on ultra hard, I'm about to clear out the trophy list, and I am feeling very accomplished. May SHINE smile on me when he reads this. I hope I did him proud.

So now that I've done this crazy hard shit with killing bitch machines, I am wondering what crazy hard shit B8 has managed to pull off over the years.

I was playing Bloodborne with a friend who was an expert at it (the type to best it several types with all different build types who knew where everything was). Meanwhile I had never played a Souls game and really just kind of sucked at games like that.

I only ever really played the game with him spawned in my world helping me out and doing a lot of the heavy lifting, because for the longest time I would just constantly fuck up if playing alone

But over the course of playing coop I noticed myself getting gradually better at the game. Then we got to The Bloody Crow of Cainhurst

It's the hardest non-boss fight of the game (and harder than 90% of the bosses anyway) and the game doesn't let you bring an ally.

It took forever but I managed to beat the Bloody Crow alone, despite the fact that when we had started I couldn't even beat the first boss without help

Cut to a couple years later and I was able to beat all of Dark Souls 3 alone without much trouble (aside from a select few rage inducing boss fights, which I eventually brat but not without a little rage)

My proudest achievement is getting 100% in Super Meat Boy.

And beating Aria Low % in Crypt of the Necrodancer.

100%'ing Super Meat Boy and The End is Nigh were super feelings, though I ain't gonna lie -- fuck +Acceptance in TEiN. That's too far.

Hardest **** I've probably done in gaming
- Demi-Fiend battle in DDS1
- Satan battle in DDS2 Hard Mode
- DMD mode in DMC3
- Master Ninja mode in Ninja Gaiden Black
- 3rd Climax mode in Bayonetta
- Infinite Climax mode in Bayonetta 2

Those are the hardest challenges I've faced if I don't include NES era games.

Proud of you for completing Frozen Wilds on Ultra Hard. I was only on Hard when I played it, and I couldn't imagine how much more of a challenge it'd be on upper difficulties. I definitely wanna try it one day though.

It is pretty ridiculous. I wasn't just trying to beat it, I was trying to get all the trophies too, so I went out of my way to do all the hard shit. Stopped being fun a couple times. I'm sure it's really fun on lower difficulties but Ultra Hard really lives up to its name on TFW

Sadly it's not a real "100%" because the real 100% is getting all the achievements too...which requires to beat every world without dying

Everytime I beat Enter the Gungeon... I'd say beating Battletoads but if I'm honest that was just an effort in frustation I was happy to see the back of rather than excited to achieve.

Hardest thing I've ever done was the shinespark trick in Metroid Fusion. It felt like the stars aligned or something, I doubt I'd ever be able to do it again.

Well it's also probably because of how easy it is to retry once you fail, you respawn immediately
If it was something like New Super Mario Bros and throw you out to the world stage every time you died..well, I would rage so much and not bother probably

Never played smb but that's probably true of rayman oranges too, though I imagine rayman is a bit easier

So in Devil May Cry 3, the toughest difficulty setting is Dante Must Die. You need to beat every other difficulty level first to unlock it, and your previous upgrades and new abilities will carry over when starting. I used a cheat code to unlock it right from the start and play through it without having any of the upgrades I was supposed to. Fun times.

Done a bunch of other stuff too, most recent thing being beating some of the bosses of Bleed 2 on the hardest difficulty without taking damage. Took videos and everything!

I dunno what my proudest technical accomplishment in a video game is. Most of the things I did that I'm proud of involve strategy or perseverance. First thing that comes to mind is beating Amplitude on Insane, but that's not that ridiculous.

Probably doing all the VR missions in Revengeance or clearing all the challenges for Marie in P4U or getting a 4 star on expert Jordan in guitar hero or beat the final powered up boss on the highest difficulty in Tales of Graces/ Zesteria

Hardest is probably still getting a AAA on Gambol 7keys in Beatmania IIDX. It's not a particularly complicated song, but due to a programming mistake, this song's timing windows are hilariously tight on older versions. The perfect timing window is reduced to a single frame for every note. As far as I know, I was the second person in the US to get it at the time, and even now it's probably between ten to twenty that have done it. There's more in Japan, but still not large numbers of people.

I think I've done some good in fighting game tourneys too? This one seems like a more rare feat though.

both were difficult in different ways and had distinct difficulty curves. I also did all bosses and all DLC with the gun only challenge which I think would have been harder with arcane items only, so I'm thinking of going back and trying that at some point. my original arcane only was basically just an any%, although I did fight gehrman just because it's a nice capstone for the run.

I used to be able to consistently A or B all the 10 footers in DDR back in the day. That's probably it. And beating Through the Fire and Flames on expert in GH3.

Rhythm games are a niche thing I'm really good at when I want to be.
