Well, clarifying your nomenclature might help when asking a question that potentially spans countries.

What's called chips abroad is referred to as french fries in the US, with the lone exception of ordering 'fish and chips'. What's called chips in the US is more commonly known as crisps abroad.

If you're asking about potato crisps, then ketchup certainly isn't a normal flavor in the US. One of the brands, Lays IIRC, does a bunch of weird food flavors that rotate every few months. I've never seen ketchup as a flavor though.

Now if you're talking about toppings for chips/french fries, then ketchup is quite common. Where things differ from Canada is in the case of poutine. That's very much a Canadian thing. In the US a common alternative is chili cheese fries.

You can buy them in the UK too, but the only ones I know of are Walkers (Lays).

Ketchup chips can occasionally be found in the US, at very large grocers.

We have ketchup chips in Canada.

I guess a better question to ask would be, "Is this carried as a normal flavor by various manufacturers, or is it just one of the Lays(and subsidiaries) experiments?"

All chip manufacturers where I live (in Toronto) have dill-pickle, all-dressed and ketchup chips. Not just Lays.

Okay, so ketchup chips confirmed as a Canadaian norm. On the US side of things though I haven't seen that around here. But that doesn't preclude a regional release. IIRC Minnesota has some overlap with Canadian foodstuffs. Maybe they'll have them there?

I don't understand some of these flavors. If you want ketchup flavored chips, couldn't you just... put ketchup on your chips? Pickle flavored chips? If you want something that tastes like a pickle, why are you eating potato chips and not... a pickle?

You're being ridiculously pedantic here. This is a US-based site. He's talking about ketchup chips. It's quite fair to think that he's talking about literal potato chips, not crisps, as the Brits call them.

Well that's a stupid argument... why buy nacho cheese doritos when you could put nacho cheese on tortilla chips?

Melting cheese on tortilla chips is delicious, though. Putting ketchup on chips would be less so. Might as well just have fries and ketchup then.

Yes I know it's delicious, but tastes nothing like nacho cheese doritos. Much like dipping a potato chip in ketchup tastes nothing like a ketchup chip. Never dipped a chip in pickle juice so I can't comment on that one (and I hate dill pickle chips). But people buy them because they enjoy the taste. Old Dutch ketchup and all dressed flavours are amazing!

Agreed. I like how there's a difference in flavour between Old Dutch and Lays, too. Rip-L chips are the best, though. Ruffles all-dressed chips are top cheddar.

I dont look for them specifically but I feel like they are(used to be?) all over gas stations in the south(although they're usually regional brands and not Lay's(though probably still owned by Frito-Lay))

idk if they're the same thing as what you'd get in canada though

Pizza pops are sweet.

I especially miss Coffee Crisp, Wunderbar and Mr Big chocolate.

I brought a big box of the above to my office (but sub Caramilk for Coffee Crisp) after my recent Canada trip. 90 minis I believe. They were nearly all gone that same day and everyone was saying how they were some of the best candy they ever tasted.

I live in Toronto too, and can vouch for this. Ketchup chips are extremely common here.
