Why exactly is it unsafe? Bittrex seems like the absolute most secure website to me. If it detects a new IP address it always makes me verify with an email, and then beyond that I have the two-factor login thing that generates a code on my phone for 10 seconds that I need to put in... Nobody can get into my account but me.

it's less about a singular login wipe than it is about the fact that their website is more susceptible to an en masse attack than any individual wallet would be

well, that, and the idea that you don't own or control their website, when or if they shut down transferability, etc

Thank you, that makes more sense. I wonder why it's considered more susceptible to mass attacks though. Like what makes Coinbase more secure? And where am I supposed to transfer my stuff to make it safe? I don't get cold storage at all.

People make the argument that its not safe because if the website is hacked, or is down, your currency is not available. From my understanding, a cold wallet is kept on something available to you like on your pc, a usb stick, or on a piece of paper. Its disconnected from the internet.
