Fraud Alert is a service that requires lenders to take additional measures to verify if you're actually who you claim to be when opening a new line of credit. It's active for 90 days once you put it on your credit record.

I activated that last month, after I was told that I may be a victim of identity fraud due to a massive breach at some company.

I wanted to apply for the Uber Visa credit card, but didn't want to deal with "Fraud Alert" stuff... but figured "what the hell; why not", so applied for it. I was instantly approved.

...........so much for freakin' Fraud Alert. /eyeroll

But if it was you that opened the card, why would fraud alert trigger?

They're supposed to verify that it's me, by calling me, sending me a mail, asking for additional documents, etc.
