Same reason they like the welfare state in spite of it leading to more single moms. They dont want to explore the unintended consequences that come with government meddling in the economy.

Minimum wage does need to be raised to account for inflation. Maybe not $15 an hour, but at least 10.

Even in the most fundamental business, you account for your labor cost across all goods and services. If your employee produces 10 widgets per hour and you increase his wage by $1 per hour, you would not simply take the dollar and divide it up into the 10 widgets. You need to add in your margin. You dont want to lower your gross margin when you pay your employee more. Say you want to make 40%. You would actually need to add about $1.67. This is why increasing the minimum wage is bad. Your employee gained 10 cents per widget but now needs 17 cents of extra buying power.
