Is "Umineko When They Cry - Question Arcs" the starting point?

It's hard to tell and I don't want to investigate in case of spoilers since I know it's a mystery series and my experience with stuff like that is that a single google search can accidentally show you massive spoilers.

Yes, that contains the first four of eight total episodes. Definitely get that.

I appreciate your request, and stating it like a given fact makes me subconsciously more inclined to want to do it!

But I don't know if I'll even get to this right away, and I'm at a place where I can't put pressure on myself to start a project because I can't even handle that level of stress, haha. So if I start it and have the impulse to, then maybe. But no guarantees.

There are mods you can get to use both the PS3 sprites (which are the best sprites) and voice acting in the steam version.

You just put some files in a folder basically.

A quick google will give you the link. Ep5-8 only have voices so far, not sprites, but it probably won't take that long for them.

Same thing exists for all Higurashi episodes released so far, ftr

The connection is basically limited to one character in Umineko who also appears in Higurashi, but there are no spoilers. Umineko is finished on Steam and Higurashi isn't, so I would play Umineko first.

They're in the same series, but other than that they are entirely plot unrelated. Higurashi is the first one of the two, so Umineko makes some references to it (usually joke meta references but there are also a few things like minor characters from Higurashi showing up in Umineko for cameos).

But you don't need to have played Higurashi first to understand Umineko.

I still kind of recommend Higurashi first anyway but it should also be noted that aside from both being mysteries, they are VERY different series genre-wise, so liking one doesn't really guarantee you'll like the other and the same goes for disliking.

EDIT: But yes Higurashi is not finished on Steam yet, so Umineko might be better to start with simply because of that.

There's no way to get spoiled for Higurashi from Umineko.

But it's still kinda better to go in the release order.

I generally don't listen to full lines voice acted in any game with it. I like having it but I read the line in my head quicker than they speak and then press X to move on, usually cutting the voice acting off halfway through. It's just nice to hear it anyway.
