Was a little sad to see this is the only thread on the board. Here I was hoping this game would really catch on with the board but going by this it seems not too many people care about the beta, at least. :(

I had a good sit down with it last night and had an absolute blast. I've played just a smidge of MH in the past but this is going to be my first proper foray and it seems like an incredible game to do it in. The diversity in movesets and fighting styles is really stunning and more importantly, all the weapons just feel flat out incredible to use.

I first went for the Greatsword just because THE CLASSIC and wanting to be Guts. Had a lot of fun but I definitely need to learn the monsters before I can actually be good with it.

Tried Switch Axe and holy shit I love that weapon. Finished the final hunt in the beta by mounting and doing an explosive finish right into its face, felt so damn good.

Yeah I basically played 200 hours of Tri with the Greatsword only didn't even bother to try anything else

I did try Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate with the switch axe at first then eventually just switched back to the Greatsword

Haven't really bothered playing a monster hunter game since then

I think I did play the demo of 4 seems pretty good but I just wasn't interested at the time in playing Monster Hunter on a portable

Then I got let down when Capcom said they weren't bringing the switch version of double cross over here even though like a few days later they announced world so definitely getting that

Guess I'll download it this time and try it out. I typically don't play demos if I already 100% know I'm gonna buy the game, but I do wanna see if any of my go-to weapons have changed much. I hear the Hammer, Dual Blades, and Switch Axe got some pretty good buffs. I never really tried the latter two, so I'd like to give them a shot, while I'm pretty excited to see that the Hammer seems better.

Since they're out on the same day trying to find the balance between this and Dragon Ball fighter Z is going to be tough but I know it is eventually going to just be Dragon Ball because that's what all my friends are going to play.

Not the beta, no. I have the game preordered and I've got a 1 year PSN membership code waiting in the wings for just this purpose. I've never done multiplayer, so this should be fun.

I've got the game preordered, so does this Beta have any more things to unlock for the full game like the last beta did?

Its the same beta as before so nope. Only difference is that Kula Ya-Ku and Pukei-Pukei randomly appear more often

OK yep, this game looks and feels great. The hammer especially is super satisfying to land massive hits with. Sword and Shield seems more fluid, but the damage output wasn't quite there, it felt like. I did this massive combo that ended with a leaping mounting attack once, but I honestly have no idea how I did it, so if I were to practice and get more accustomed to the combos, I'm sure I'd like SnS more. Great Sword is still Great Sword. It didn't feel any different whatsoever.

I'll try some new weapons out later, but Christmas is upon us, so....

Great sword is actually a lot different now. You get this shoulder tackle that can cancel a charge, and has massive super armor, takes the power of your charge (not entirely sure how this works, think it goes to your next attack? Something), and allows you to do the follow up super or true charge faster.

Which is another new thing, true charge. It's a third charge, can only be done after a strong charge, which is done after a normal charge. It does *massive* damage, but is a little tricky to aim because it's a cartwheel. Regular charges seem maybe a little weaker than they used to be, but the true charge is massive.

People will use the shoulder tackle to eat hits (you take damage but don't get interrupted) and follow up with a true charge or what have you

Okay got some more info about gs:

Tackle-cancelling a Lv3 charge increases the power of the tackle, also increases the power of the jumping wide slash.

-You can charge a slash attack mid-air a la Aerial Style

-New move: Tackle
can be used after a wide slash / after a roll / during mid-charge to CANCEL THE CHARGE
makes you immune to flinching during animation, take less damage if hit during animation
cancelling a charge with a tackle and charging again will bring it to the stronger charge type
e.g. normal charge tackle cancel STRONG charge tackle cancel TRUE charge
You can now go Charged Slash Strong Charge True Charge without the need of a slap or whatever in between **

Also, about hammer:

You now get this move called power charge. Basically, start a normal charge and press circle. It stores the energy intonyour hammer, and you get a buff that lasts until you get flinched or sheathed. You do a small amount more damage, your charge moves change to the adept style charges if you remember them from generations, your hits do more ko damage, and it gives you super armor while doing any attack or charge (Which is super great for hammer).

You dont have to do a full charge or anything. Cancel right away and get the full buff

Oh also, the damage numbers make the sweet spot for great sword and long sword super apparent.

Snow area I think will come in Ultra/DLC it's so expensive to animate well these days I imagine it'd take almost as much time as half the stuff they've already put together.

Charge blade is probably going to be the strongest weapon over all. Hbg properly set up might beat it out, it will be close.

Other very strong looking weapons are dual blades, long sword, bow

Gunlance is actually significantly buffed this time. The new melee moves hit *hard*.

What do you recommend for people who've never played MH Multiplayer? My runs on the 3DS usually include the dual blades and the great sword, but I'm told that certain combos are terrible for multiplayer. I'm not against learning a new weapon, when it comes down to it.

Well, it's hard to say. It kinda depends on what your friends are using. And certain things cause less tripping now.

Honestly you just have to play around and see for yourself. As a general rule of thumb, don't attack right on top of someone else. Find your own space
