I didn't get to play ALttP until it was ported to the GBA. Although I grew up between the '80s and '90s, SNES games were just too expensive back then.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially with the amount of freedom the game allows. There's a surprising number of items and upgrades you can obtain before even leaving the first world. Later Zelda games feel too railed in with event triggers and plot progression keeping the player from reaching certain points early on.

Plus the overworld is boring and lifeless >_> There's only 1 town with barely anyone to talk to and everywhere else is just enemies roaming all over the place.

There are secrets and side-quests littered all over the place. Exploring the world and discovering this content is like 50% of the gameplay.

But it doesn't compel me to explore really >_>

So the world isn't 'lifeless' as you say, you're just too damn lazy to explore it. What exactly is 'missing' from the game? Do you need NPCs interspersed around every corner of the map cheering you on to bomb walls and pick up rocks?
