The republicans entire argument under Obama was it doesnt matter how the stock market is doing, it matters how REAL AMERICANS are doing. Feels vs reals and all of that. That doesnt make them right btw, I just think its interesting that now the republicans are all going but look at the stock market! when that was never a good enough indicator under Obama. The economy did quite well under Obama and it is continuing to do well in Trumps first year. The test will be if it continues at this rate over the duration of his presidency. I do agree with Sephs overall point though that a strong stock market is typically linked to a strong national economy as well, although not always. --- Moops? "I thought you were making up diseases? Wages are not the only factor to individual wealth. I'd rather have a smaller wage increase and see my 401k increase by 20% to be quite honest. Great, but what about the other 48%? Some people literally cannot invest in the stock market because they're living paycheck-to-paycheck. Pretty sure if the soaring stock market was having an effect on most average Americans, they'd be fine with things as they are instead of massively disapproving of things like the current President, current Republican led congress, and the tax bill they just passed. We actually produced less coal this year than we did last, despite Trump's plan to somehow bring it back and create all these new coal jobs. What's gonna happen when that decline catches up to coal mines? Those few jobs that were created in 2017 are gonna be lost again. What's probably gonna be better is the fact that 19 states will be increasing their minimum wages in 2018. --- TheRock ~ I had a name, my father called me Blues. ... Copied to Clipboard!

This is hardly a new political problem either.
Under FDR once the banks avoided being run on and the stock market began coming back people began to argue that measures like welfare and social security be rolled back as they were no longer necessary. Instead FDR came out and said that the health of an economy is dependent more on the bottom 33% of earners than the top 33% and enacted a series of labor protections that got him reelected twice. This is a lesson democrats learned the hard way too - Clinton rode into town and told people that they shouldnt have economic anxiety because all indicators pointed to a healthy economy while Trump ran on a platform of "we're all gonna die if nothing changes" and Trump won. That's what has convinced me people aren't lying when they tell pollsters they don't feel confident jn the economy and that they do feel economically vulnerable. --- Board 8's Voice of Reason http://i.imgur.com/chXIw06.jpg ... "Anticipating that Special Counsel Robert Mueller will ask to interview President Donald Trump, the president's legal team is discussing a range of potential options for the format, including written responses to questions in lieu of a formal sit-down, according to three people familiar with the matter. " "In addition to the possibility of suggesting the president submit written responses in place of an interview, a second person familiar with the president's legal strategy said another possibility being contemplated was an affidavit signed by the president affirming he was innocent of any wrongdoing and denying any collusion. It was not clear what such an affidavit might state regarding the president's firing of former FBI Director James Comey in May 2017 at a time when Comey was leading the Russia probe." ""Prosecutors want to see and hear folks in person," said Chuck Rosenberg, former U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia and chief of staff to FBI Director Comey. "They want to probe and follow up. Body language and tone are important," said Rosenberg, now an NBC News analyst. "And they want answers directly from witnesses, not from their lawyers.
