I agree (which is why I do it)

But other internet people I've told this (both this year and when I've done it in the past) have been like 'wtf that's so bad'

Sadly, nothing for my family again. I just had the Secret Santa stuff prior to Christmas to Prof, obviously if you care you can find it in that topic. Today I bought a VN for a friend of mine online because it's made by the company that did his favorite VN. Trying to get a job for next year and maybe I'll be better then.

The only downside is that you don't get to actually unwrap anything, but it doesn't bother me.

There are a lot of people in my family, so everyone finds it easier to hand out 6 or 7 envelopes to the adults and older kids rather than keeping track of what everyone likes and finding the time to find and buy them.

Everyone still buys gifts to open for the young kids, which works.

It's not necessarily bad. It's better than buying some random junk just for the sake of buying something but not as good as putting some thought into and finding something that is useful or enjoyable to them

Restaurant gift cards are fine though I suppose

Got my sister a really good cookbook for her new house, 30-pack for a friend, 12-pack and Amaretto for another friend, reading socks for someone else, crosswords and black zambuka for me mum, book for me dad...

Not much for my usual Christmas giveaway, but it was a lax year all around with no one getting or receiving anything really big.

Family:
Mom: A pie bird (supposed to help pies from boiling over), an adjustible silicone pie crust cover, Heaven is for Real, and a wireless computer mouse
Dad: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Hidden Figures, and a wireless computer mouse

Brother: Final Fantasy XV (Xone)
Sister-in-law: Peacock Sharpie Set
Also since my brother hasn't paid me back for that day we bought SNES classics (and he borrowed money from me to do so), I'd say that counts (given I'd consider it a present to both of them).

Twin Sister (halfway across the country): Waterproof Picnic Blanket
Sister-in-law: Clothes drying rack
Their <1 year old: A small stuffed dog (when I finally make the trip over to see them), and a set of stackable cup/bath toys.

Eldest Sister (Europe): Nada, and same goes for my Brother-in-law and Nephew over there; shipping stuff over there costs so much.

To individual members of the family (12 in all) - an individually prepared and decorated bag containing a miniature holiday-themed plate, mini wine bottle, bags of different flavored popcorn and nuts, and a hand-woven coin purse or hackey sack from Guatemala.

For the family in general - a large cheese and meat spread to enjoy with the miniature wines.

My girlfriend put so much time into making the bags that no one even wanted to open them since they looked so pretty.

I also got my brother a mini bike pump and my parents and grandma the plane tickets for our Christmas trip. Was an amazing time overall!
