The highlight of my time with the game so far was when I was hiding in this room with a door closed and there was 13 people left. I hadnt killed a single soul, and I had been fairly unlucky only finding a shotgun.
So Im hiding there, and hear someone running around outside my door. Sure enough the guy opens the door and runs in not expecting me. I blast him sporadically spraying bullets everywhere and he goes down!

So I excitedly loot his body. He has level 3 helmet, level 3 backpack, ghuile suit, fully kitted out weapons, 5 first aid kits, gas mask, protective glasses, the whole works.

I use to be the same way, shit at any PC shooter including PUBG, but could just survive until top ten. I finally just started dropping where I knew there would be fights and brute forced myself to either fight and live or get #90 and try again.

It's made me a lot more confident in firefights instead of avoiding them.

This is basically the best advice there is. Those early game fights where you might not have found or looted a better weapon will improve your skills.
