Empires were also almost always led by figureheads with absolute power or near it. Trump isnt even all of one of three equivalent branches of government. And if youre comparing to the Brits hopefully you realize that they were overextended in land holdings like a motherfucker.

The Brits could have maintained holds on most of their lands (except America). They just did the moral thing and gave them back, see: Jimmy Carter / Panama Canal.

Empires failed because of internal proletariat unrest and increasing strength of international enemies. Not because of political talking points.

Our enemies (Russia, China, NK, etc) are getting stronger and getting more power over us, and inside we hate each other.

The big thing missing here is how Rome was spread too far to manage. The US is a large country but fairly cohesive and uniform.

They certainly couldn't have held onto India. Rhodesia declared independence from them. They probably gave some of it back because it was the "moral thing", but I think a lot of it they lost because of their weakened state after WWII.

Not that I disagree on the whole but I think a valid argument can be made we haven't been cohesive and uniform since the 30's bar a short period post-9/11

One of the big problems I've heard about Rome was the lack of integration towards the end of the Empire. Like, people from Germania and stuff wanted to be seen as full Romans like the Italians and stuff, but they ended up being discriminated against and pushed into ethnic enclaves and stuff. This further fragmented Roman society. It would have been better to fully integrate them into true Romans.

The first two have been happening for a while now. If it continues I will give Trump credit but right now he's riding a wave.
Obama did deport millions of immigrants. I believe (but could be wrong) that more were deported under Obama then Bush Jr.
Lowering taxes sounds nice but what does that mean? What's being cut? Whose getting less money? The military? The EPA? Education? Infrastructure? Intelligence agencies? Taxes help pay for our government and make it work so yeah I am worried when they are cut as where is that lost money going to come from?

Now I'm not one of those people who think Trump can do no good and will attack everything he does but I do think its too early. I think that we will start feeling the effects of Trump next year and if things keep getting better I will admit it. I just don't like many of his choices so far.

They aren't integral to the United States in the slightest and if they suddenly broke off nothing would change. Most Americans can't even name them to start with, and many don't even know we had offshore territories.

America is fairly overextended though. It cant do shit for Puerto Rico for example and that's a US territory. Then look at any area where the US claims it is improving overseas. Vietnam, the middle east, cuba... The US has been overextended since WW2. Thats basically been an accepted fact.

LOL economic growth is not a "talking point." It's the nation and her people growing stronger. Which is the exact opposite of a falling empire.

We hate each other? Maybe that's because Donald Trump can't take a piss without the left attacking him for it.
