And you don't think they would use that to leverage power against the other powers? Or that a political rival might reveal it in order to win power? The assumption is based on the idea that all governments function like a hive mind, when really it's more of a Darwinian nightmare (by design).

I'm pointing out that it would be pretty hard to keep something like that under wraps even for the most cohesive and talented government. The number of people needed to be involved would be bound to leave some sort of evidence and political rivals will often capitalize on things like this to either gain power or destroy their opponents.

But no, they wouldn't make a "clone army." A clone would take just as many resources to raise as any other person, but would be more susceptible to cancer and the like if the DNA sample was taken any time later than infancy. It would cost a lot more money due to the price of actually creating each clone. Not to mention it would be better for an army to have genetic diversity.

Yea but you wouldn't be killing your civilian population and all that pain and loss from losing loved ones would become an irrelevant thing. As long as you had the resources you'd have unlimited morale at home. Plus if your whole clone army gets destroyed you'd have an entire population ready to make up for the loss if it got down to the wire. A clone army would be an unprecedented psychological weapon just in its existence alone

A clone army would be part of your civilian population. What do you think clones are? DNA is taken from an organism, and used to grow a genetically identical* embryo, growing into new, but genetically identical, organism.

*in terms of genes present. What genes are activated and expressed could potentially be radically different.
