Too long my ass, if it wasn't long the movie would have suffered like the rest of the modern movie trash these days with rushed plots.

It was probably a bit too long. Not because it dragged or anything, but the length made it kind of difficult for theaters to set up showings. I think that's part of the reason it didn't do well at the box office.

Honestly movies today are just badly edited.

There's nothing wrong with being long but so many movies now are just long for the sake of it and filled with filler or bad scenes.

I think there is a mistake in logic that people think length = epic.
---

a really good sequel which had a lot of the spirit of the first

i think its a good example of sticking close to the original and expanding on the zeitgeist which star wars, total recall, robocop, etc failed to do with the modern versions

I actually think of this exact scene, when he discovers it, when I think about what's wrong with this movie.

I love the movie, don't get me wrong, but I do honestly think it's too long. Not because I have a poor attention span, but because I think scenes were simply artificially stretched out too often, this particular scene being an example. It just needed a bit of tightening up is all.

after finally watching original blade runner i'm convinced it's one of those "had to watch it at the time" movies with its horrendous pacing and atmosphere-setting mood.

feels bad knowing they tried to "keep the spirit" of the original in the new one.

As much as I loved it (day 1 purchase too)... the second and especially third act could have used a tighter edit. Five to ten less minutes would have done wonders for its box office, imo.

I really don't think run time is an issue. Its more about the pacing of a movie. People love the LotR films and those are like 3-4 hours long.

Oh my

He may be watching the one with the original voice over. If so, I'd kind of agree. Truthfully I actually like 2049 a lot more than I like any version of the original. Also I have no problem with length here. If I have a criticism, it's that the the supplementary videos covering the gap of time between 2019 and 2049 can't really fit in the film, so only particular fans of the original would have gone out of their way to get all the backstory needed to fully appreciate what's happening in the film. But then, perhaps the movie is long enough already, and it already maintains a sharp commitment to not repeating itself.

Like the original, this franchise isn't for everyone, but its ideas and visuals will definite genres.
