The guy who called in the false report needs to be punished severely. His actions directly caused the death of a person, dude needs to be locked up for a long fucking time.

The cop needs to have something happen to him as well. If it is shown that he was unarmed and the cop was just trigger happy then he needs to be charged as well.

I normally defend cops but based on the information in the article this guy obviously really fucked up.

The dude who gave out his neighbor's address needs to be severely punished too.

Officers screamed at Finch to put his hands in the air, but Livingston said the 28-year-old moved a hand toward his waistband. An officer, fearing Finch was reaching for a gun, fired a single shot. Finch died minutes later.

Do you guys even read the fucking article?

What are the cops going to say? "He looked confused for a second so I shot him."

"I feared for my life!"
We bitch and moan about "every American has an arsenal; they're all gun lovers" and then when a policeman thinks someone might be reaching for a gun and shoots, we crusify him/her. I have customers at my job with open conceal that have guns on their hips like the wild fucking west when they pick their orders. I don't really know these people and they're walking in with guns. You can not bitch about too many guns in America and then cut someone down for reacting in fear. Cop or civilian. There's a person in this story that lied and called a swat team over to an innocent person's house saying they were mentally ill and were armed with hostages, over a fucking video game and CE is shit posting about the policeman.

So in case it wasn't clear. The person asked a question and I answered it directly. Those would be the words that are said and acceptable. Whatever political tone you think I was taking with it is all in your head. Take a stand on an issue instead of being "above the fray" and smarter than everyone else. What is the fucking issue in your political narrative? The amount of guns in the public or police misconduct?

Of course the person who called it in, if found will face a much harsher penalty than the shooting cop. Imo the justice system is very heavily biased in favor of the shooting cops

After Daniel Shaver's execution I don't know if its possible to get a judgement on a cop

Did you forget the judgment against that cop in nyc who fired blindly into a dark stairwell cause he was startled by a loud noise? But not surprisingly imo that cop was asian

the fuck kind of low key racism is this?

how is this low key racism? what a stupid question. if race had something to do with it then it did, duh

I think the implication is that if it was a white cop, the police department would have put more effort into protecting him.

tbf that guy and his partner were assholes - they weren't supposed to be doing stairway patrols like that in that neighborhood in the first place, and after they shot the guy there was a significant delay in contacting EMTs because the guy was literally texting or calling his union rep for help.

I am far from a law / police expert on these matters.

I do know that not all police forces are the same. And even within one police force, not all precincts are the same.
I don't remember all the details of the case (ie, how long the cop had been on the force or anything like that).

And this might sound wrong, but I don't care if the cop's race played a factor or not, the important thing is that he was convicted which sets the foundation for future such charges when similar crap happens.

edit: I also hate when people jump to conclusions whenever there's a police shooting. I think that's the epitome of ignorance, especially when you demonstrate absolutely zero capacity to critically think with regards to the situational conditions at the time of the shooting.

I am not saying that all police shootings are justified and that police shouldn't be convicted. I am saying that before we start rioting and shit we should figure out the facts to the fullest extent possible.

Did I even say you were toting a political tone. I quoted the whole conversation because I can't quote all the conversations wanting to crusify the officer and this was also the most recent one in the thread. I'm sure he did fear for his life with the lies that fuck stain said when calling in the police on this man. And I understand that these officers are trained but they're still human.

And I've pretty much taken a stand and posted it earlier. If the little shit hadn't called the police over a video game the officer would not have been in the situation he was to have his actions called into question. But that little shit in jail for being directly responsible for the death of an innocent man and let the policeman's actions be handled internally or by IA so they can see if the policeman is unfit for future duty.

Edit: So in other words, this situation does indeed piss my off and showcases the bottom rung of humanity, yet I didn't intend for it to sound like I was angry at you or your specific comment.

No. Daniel Shavers tried to pull up his pants, and unfortunately, from the cop's vantage point, his movement could be reasonably interpreted as someone reaching for a gun. It was a tragic situation.

In the NYC case, the victim was not a suspect and was merely walking. The Asian-American cop got spooked in the dark and fired a shot. Nothing the victim did could be reasonably be interpreted as threatening.

had to get him closer to their location. If you watch the video, there are 2 weirdly placed doors around that corner Shavers and the woman came out of; they had no idea if anyone else was still in the room and couldn't see around said corner.

The problem here is that we're comparing apples to oranges, which is very, very unfortunate. What I mean is that they're both police departments, but they're entirely different police departments in entirely different states and that means that the cases were prosecuted differently.

That being said, I seriously do not understand how the fudge that cop got off, it was obvious he was harassing Mr. Shavers and dragged it out way too long (not to mention the engraving on his gun). That is a seriously gross injustice right there, 100% indefensible.

VOIP basically makes it so that you can easily spoof ANY number you want (even totally bullshit numbers like 0000000000) and it takes digging through ISP records to find out who made the call, and if they're using an encrypted VPN in Russia or some shit then good luck.

This is what those telephone scammers (Rachel from cardholder services, etc) do because they're run by people with half a brain. This kid was just a moron who did what he thought was funny.

Prison time for anyone involved in these hoaxes. The swat team gets all amped up because they have to be. It's a tragedy that an innocent person died.
