I was just thinking about this with Half-Life were the US soldiers murder all the scientists and are depicted as sadistic monsters.
And then there's also Tomb Raider 3 Where the military aren't even bad guys really, you just break into a military prison, murder all the innocent guards who presumably have loving families and let the seriously dangerous criminals free. Without a care in the world because Lara Croft is a fucking lunatic. Just imagining either of those games being released today makes me think of the mass outrage that would follow.
