The forever shitty government and corruption. That's perhaps the main one. Russia also has a lot of resources and potential power which could be used to improve the quality of life in the country, but no...

St Petersburg and Moscow may be as great as your typical European cities, but once you go out, it gets increasingly worse in practically all qualities of life. Rural areas are incredibly shitty and poor. Well, they are remote, but still. It's just depressing how badly at least 20% of the population has it.

I lived in Russia for abit, and checking the street view for my part of my city, nothing really had changed. Same graffiti caked onto a wall, the road still has the same potholes... I guess that kinda contributes it for me, but it's probably personal bias. Oh and one day, if I showed up somewhere 10 minutes earlier, I would have been in the middle of an armed robbery. Cool, huh?

I might, however, visit Russia again. I admit, as a tourist it must be pretty damn awesome to be there especially for the women.
