Flying somewhere tomorrow, and I really, really needed this thing I ordered by today. I ordered it this past Tuesday (12/26) with the "guaranteed delivery date" of today, but it was delayed until next Tuesday (1/2).

This type of shit happened a lot this past year, but this was the first time that it actually mattered to me, so naturally, I complained about it. And what did Amazon do to correct this? Nothing.

Here's a snippet from the chat:

Me: So the past year, this has happened quite frequently. With other packages, it really didn't matter; but this one was particularly important that it got delivered on time.
Paul: What I can advise you is to try the same day shipping that Amazon is offering or the one business day shipping. Try also to order the package on a Monday because sometimes weekends affect the delivery of the package.
Me: And what about the "guaranteed delivery date"?
Paul: The guaranteed delivery date was actually given by the system. Mostly the date that was given is accurate but it just happened that it is holiday season and many packages needed to be delivered.
Me: So there's nothing you can do for me, huh? Alright then. Have a great night, Paul, and have a happy new year.
Paul: Is there anything else that I can assist you with?
Me: I guess not.
Paul: Thank you for shopping at Amazon, <my name>. Happy new year!

I don't want to deal with this crap anymore. After I return, I'm going to contact them again to return this, and definitely not at my expense.

I appreciate that sentiment but it's the fact that you started to get aggressive then just went passive aggressive then just ended it cordially.

Ordering anywhere around Christmas and expecting accurate delivery dates is like throwing caution to the wind.

he's right about the holiday season. I mailed a legal document via usps first class and it was delivered 8 days later than the promised delivery date. USPS fuck up cause me to not have a vehicle for another month

Guaranteed delivery is in fact guaranteed. The times and estimates given on the site are supposed to take holidays into account.

If it ends up delayed because of the carrier, Amazon is supposed to refund the shipping and it it was free with Prime, they give you an extra free month of Prime.

They had a whole promotion before Christmas where they gave you exact times you could order by and get it before a Christmas using their various shipping speeds. Amazon does take it seriously. This guy just brushed you off.

Yes because that's what helps herd all the sheeple to the place where they can easily be placated instead of having them call up where it's much harder to hang up on someone than it is to send a chatbot to them.

Yeah Amazon has been dropping the ball this past year or two. I've seen dozens of issues from various places, and threads on places like reddit with hundreds to thousands of upvotes talking about the issues. Not sure what happened.

And the customer service is so freaking hit and miss. Generally it's mediocre, but twice now I've gotten super lucky and the employees offered me $50 (split between two different orders) for being damaged or late. Other times they tell me too fucking bad or promise to extend my prime and magically forget about it and I'm SoL without any compensation.

Sorry to hear that though, tc. They're always infinitely worse during holidays, and they aren't always the best to begin with (esp with release day products).

You probably couldve gotten some kind of reimbursement if you didnt get all passive aggressive and end the conversation. You only assumed there was nothing he could do for you at all. I mean yeah probably couldnt magically speed up the package but still.

Literally never had a conversation with amazon customer service that I was anything other than exceedingly polite in and never left one without some kind of refund, credit etc.

Also yeah dont order things you REALLY NEED with only a week to go. Even if Amazon did everything right this time of year one bad snowstorm is all it takes to delay a package...and holidays even in good weather are stupidly busy for shipping companies. Shit happens.

Squeaky wheel gets the grease, always. The more you get pissed off, the more they offer if you have a legit complaint. It's an escalation system. He proly got some points in QA for honey dicking you. (Not really) Retaining your business is their number 1 priority. Worst case, threaten to end service on the phone, and they have even more stuff to offer.

Let's say two guys call in. Both lost cable service. One guy is all meek and accepts whatever, one guy is yelling and threatening to throw his router out the window. The angry guy would get his service call comped and 3 months of free hbo, maybe more. Meek guy wouldn't yet shit, and he'd say 'thanks, have a great new year'.

Remember that.
