A New York man was arrested 2 after allegedly biting the eye out of his family's 3-year-old Shih Tzu. Aaron Kluger, 20, has been charged with torturing and injuring an animal, according to WNBC.

The dog, Chloe, was rushed to a local animal hospital and had to undergo emergency surgery to reattach her eye. The veterinarian called officials after it was clear that the dog's eye had been bitten out.

The family pet will likely regain its sight, Gary Rogers, a spokesman for the Nassau County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, told the New York Daily News.

"I hate to say Ive seen it all, because every time I say it, I see something else," said Rogers, who visited Chloe shortly after her surgery. Rogers said that Chloe showed no signs of aggression.

"Theyre friendly dogs," he said. "Theyre popular dogs. She was wagging her tail and licking me." Aaron's father, Dan Kluger, defended his son.

"The eye was slightly displaced, it was a minor injury," he said. "It was an accident. You should know that a Shih Tzus eye can be displaced just by pulling the skin back." Dan called the charges against his son "totally outrageous," adding: "This is crazy. They made it appear as if he performed vivisection on this dog. My son is suicidal now. Hes terribly upset."

Dan said that Aaron is emotionally disabled and stopped attending school after the sixth grade due to anxiety issues. Aaron also reportedly suffered from a heroin addiction in the past.

Kluger's mother, Mary, also maintained that the injury was an accident, saying that her son was "playing with [Chloe] and it busted out."

The Kluger family has no other pets, according to the New York Daily News.

While the parents said they were unclear on exactly how the injury occurred, the veterinarian was reportedly confident that the dog suffered a human bite.

"A human bite is totally different from an animal bite," said Rogers. "The vet was able to figure out that somebody did this."
