I've been playing for 5 hours and this is just clunky junk so far. I can't point towards anything I like at all.

I do actually want to know if this terrible opening is just a thing people deal with or if I'm supposed to be liking this game right now.

I find that hard to imagine. I'm at the point where I can go on the boat to advance whenever I like. Played through day and night stuff, wandering and quests, did all the available hunts, fished, pretty much anything I could try at the time.

And literally none of it works. Everything sucks.

If this was supposed to be good in anyway then it's time to quit.

FF15 is an open world game from devs who haven't played open world games and didn't learn the lessons of open world games over the last 17 years. The systems in service of exploration - hunts, side quests, relationship building through shared experiences - are barren, making time spent in the world seem like an eternity. Combat is never as fun as it looks save for a few boss fights. The magic system is atrocious. This is a game that does almost everything wrong.

Well in the last half of the game, walking around is pretty much the only thing you can do, so good luck with that.

hey, good news: you're experiencing the game post-patch and so you can drive anywhere you want. most of us had to experience the open road glued to it.

hey, good news: you're experiencing the game post-patch and so you can drive anywhere you want. most of us had to experience the open road glued to it.

I heard this and I'm actually confused about it, because the car DOESN'T let me drive off the road. I'm totally glued to the street.

Is that really that much of a good thing? Driving off road is practically worse than driving on it, thanks to all the obstacles that get your car stuck.

I dunno I enjoy the combat in XV and the most of the open world stuff, although it has been quite a while since I've played so there's a lot of changes I haven't seen yet. Which will probably make me like the game more from stuff I've heard so yay

The open world was the best part of the game for me. 80% of my total time with the game was spent pre-chapter 9, where I went everywhere in the world and did every single hunt and sidequest available.

It was when I had to actually start progressing the game that it went from my GOTY to a game that I don't look back fondly on in hindsight. It's kind of crazy how much I liked the game while playing it, whereas now I think of it as one of my least favourite Final Fantasy games. Enough that after getting the platinum trophy, I uninstalled it and haven't gone back for any of the DLC.

This was all pre-patches though.

I had more fun in MGSV empty world than I did in XV

you could actually drive around outside of roads, there's actual enemies spread out and animals for you to play zoo keeper

The fishing game was great until I spent hours doing only fishing to get the last trophy I needed for the platinum.

I no longer like the fishing game.

you don't have to like it but saying it "doesn't work" or is "sub-par" is objectively wrong. It is well designed!

The point is there are plenty of legitimate issues with the game and reasons to dislike it but he's basically just saying "everything sucks because it sucks".

I actually went into this game expecting to be proven wrong. With how much of a hilarious joke my simultaneous purchase of SO5 was, I figured I was coming off of a game that any game would look amazing next to by comparison, and that enough people talk positively about it that something must be there.

This was all pre-patches though.

They added a part where instead of having to go through that one awful section with Noctis, you can do it with Gladiolus instead. Not only does that make that section go by significantly faster, it also makes it more fun because you're not trying to stealth.

I agree that post-open world, the game gets way worse, but I still loved it by the end of the game. TC, if you're not liking FFXV by now then I'm afraid you won't enjoy the game at all. The hunts and the first half of the story missions were my favorite part of the game. You will not hate the 2nd half quite as much as the rest of us did because you won't have to sit there with your ring holding x to explode enemies as Noctis (they patched in an alternative route you can take), but... well, actually, if you hate the game this much now, yeah you'll like it a lot less than us by the end too.

I dunno, as someone who prefers linearity (go go FFXIII) and dislikes open worlds, I figured the second half might be more to my preference!

But it sounds like the linear aspects of the latter half aren't up to those standards.

20+ hours in the 3 episodes (actually 25+ in Prompto)

Another 100 hours in comrades.

Been great since the beginning.

Really ramps up at chapter 3 though IMO.
