If a store is open until 10, and i walk in at 9:50, spend 1 minute getting my items so you can spend 1 minute processing the transaction, and i leave the store at 9:52, what the fuck does some snot nosed kid behind the counter have to complain about?

And even if they have to spend 10 minutes after close packing up, who cares? They will never make it in a salaried job with real responsibility if they complain about trivial crap like this

What do you think a salaried job is? Overtime stops being a thing in most full time professions, but most people I know still work overtime now and again if the job demands it.

Do you really think you will accomplish your shopping in a few minutes before closing? I can't fault businesses that don't allow new customers before they close their doors.

And if you are already inside then you still have till 10 to finish.

Like a resterant that takes 10-15 to cook someone order shouldn't be taken new customers 15 minutes to close otherwise they will forced to be open later.

I worked at several restaurants, but the worst thing ever was one night after the Grey cup when it was hosted in the city I was working... I was told to send staff home (we closed at 11PM) by my manager because we were 'dead.' At 10:00PM the game was over, and people started to come in. I was running the kitchen by myself with a dishwasher and a salad tender. We should've had at least 6 people in the kitchen, and it was really annoying because I was starting to shut down. Thankfully, my manager started to tell costumers at 10:50 that we were closing soon and they were not allowed to order anymore...

Stop waiting until the last minute to buy your shit or wait until tomorrow. Most stores need to empty the register tills after closing and some places can't do it until all the customers leave. You're taking up THEIR time by being an inconsiderate asshole with poor time management.

I've never seen a store be that blatant. I think that employees who complain about someone coming it at 9:55 are entitled, provided that the customer leaves the store by closing. You have to do your job until the end of the time you are being paid for, get over it. Now if your employer is making you illegally stay on additional time, that is a different story. I think that law enforcement needs to start looking into cracking down on that.

For what it's worth, never expect help in a 24 hour store after 10PM or so. In Walmart, everyone there after 10:30 or 11 is literally a stocker with a job title slapped on to meet the corporate requirements to have the store open, and yes, that's a corporate policy.

If you know what you need, great, if not, well.... Also, in Walmart at least, they shut the AC off around midnight to save money.

There are times when we close on time, I'm the last three or four employees that walk out and customers still pull up next to me in the parking lot while I'm trying to get to my car and ask, "You guys still open?"

Really? Gee I dunno, store lights are off. Only two or three cars still in the parking lot. Closed sign buzzing. Nah, we're all just going on a 12 hour break. Sorry.

That's why you always specify with them. I had to do this with a restaurant I was going to a few months back, and they reassured me that so long as I was there before 10 PM, they'd service me regardless of how long it typically takes for a meal to be cooked and served.

I've worked retail register for years and have no problem with people showing up near closing, as long as they finish their business before closing as well. As a worker you're stuck there until after closing anyway, why not just do your job?

It's only really bad for food service because everything needs to be cleaned up. Retail, it doesn't really matter unless they leave merchandise in odd locations.

I work until 11 at night so if I need something on the way home from work I stop at a place I know is open. There are two wal-marts, a 24-hour gas station, a 24-hour McDonald's drive through, and a Rite-Aid that's open 'til midnight.

I walk into a store at 9:50 plenty of times! They still have about 10 minutes, so I'm good.

If those freaks don't want people shopping after 9:30, CLOSE AT 9:30.

Otherwise, I'm walking in at 9:30 with 0% shame. Anyone who gets mad at that probably needs a better job.

Sometimes when we had customers 5-10 mins before closing, we would serve burger patties straight from the chili drawer instead of freshly cooked ones. Certain managers had no problem with this. We all just wanted to shut down and clean everything.
