I agree that it's metal (I'm not overly fond of most of the music myself) but you have to understand that metal fans are really insecure when it comes to these types of bands and will make up arbitrary rules to try gate some band from being called metal (the metal board on this site is a prime example of this).

Sure, you don't have to like what others like, but it doesn't mean you have to dismiss them entirely and say they are fakers. Try recommending bands you consider "proper" but sorta similar to what they like to help tease them into the more hardcore stuff you enjoy.

Most actual metal heads (away from this site) are super welcoming I've found. Some/many might not like the "lighter/commercial" stuff, but they don't shame people who do like it and instead support them and encourage them to diversify and listen to harder stuff.

Is best to just not ignore the opinions of this site in regards to metal I find as it has the worst of the worst kind of elitists.

gee, it's almost like that sticky on the metal board is there for a reason and provides a 100% accurate breakdown of different metal subgenres. you can read it as that stupid sentence you put in caps all you want, but what it actually states is simply the differences between different metal subgenres, and clarifications about what genres of music are subgenres of metal and what are subgenres of rock, which isn't metal. it's really not that hard to understand.

No, it's someone arbitrarily deciding what they feel is and isn't metal, disregarding definitions and throwing in their own opinion and treating it as fact. Aka, being an elitist douche.

Take something like this which is spacey, atmospheric, dark, with specific tunings associated with metal as well as playing in metal timings, having explosive moments of instrumentation and harsh vocals
