It is definitely more Cardcaptors. The cards became clear and she has captured the "Gale" card.

It is fucking gorgeous.

Never watched Cardcaptor growing up, but isn't it a show aimed at little girls? Or does it have a broader appeal to adults as well?

It is definitely within its own little genre. It's a Magical Girl anime that has a lot of good things going for it, but if you're not into Magical Girl anime, this will not change your mind.

It also relies heavily on the fact that you watched the series back in the 90's.

I watched most of the original series and the movie. Is there more after that before this series?

They did a quick episode that kinda ret-conned the ending of the original series into what happened in the manga, thus leading into Clear Card-Hen.

Lee/Syaoran had to leave and go to Hong Kong to deal with family shit. He's back in the this episode tho.

Is that episode the one where Sayoran comes back, and there's like a card that undoes most of Sakura's work? I remember very little since I watched the series back when it was airing on CN

Well, the movies and the final episode of the original series didn't go exactly as the manga did (one of the movies takes place after the final episode and is retconned out of existence now).

Seek out the Episode 0 and it sets you up well for the ongoing series.

The show is called Cardcaptor Sakura.

"Cardcaptors" was the name of that awful, chopped up and censored dub that makes a 4Kids dub seem reasonable by comparison. Also, the show later got re-dubbed, with no cut/chopped episodes or censored content, under the real Cardcaptor Sakura name. So that original "Cardcaptors" dub may as well have never existed.

But besides that, I agree that the show is one of the best and most beautiful magical girl anime of all time, and the sequel will be more of the same. I'll definitely be watching Clear Card this season (waiting for the simuldub though) and I'm looking forward to it being one of the best quality shows of the season.

Well, for one thing, they skipped the first five or so episodes because Syaoran wasn't in them.

I never knew it got redubbed

Did the redub keep the opening theme from Cardcaptors tho? I remember it being awesome

Well, for one thing, they skipped the first five or so episodes because Syaoran wasn't in them.

Nelvana (the original dubbers) didn't "skip" the first several episodes, but they tried to change the episode order (including making Shaoran's introductory episode the first one aired) to make Shaoran seem like a second main character and make the show appeal more to boys. This of course failed miserably, since everyone still liked Sakura more.

Nelvana also removed almost anything that could be seen as romantic feelings (Meiling for Shaoran, Tomoyo for Sakura, Sakura and Shaoran for Yukito and later for each other, etc.) including completely re-writing or omitting entire episodes. Even scenes within other episodes were messed with just because someone was blushing when near the other character they liked. The fact that the original CCS was 70 episodes and the Nelvana dub only aired 39 illustrates just how much of the show they chopped up.

It was an absolute mess.

It was, and the entire original series (the new dub as well as the subbed version) are available on Crunchyroll. The original should stay dead.

No, they went back to the original openings that Cardcaptor Sakura had.

is card captoirs any good
whats it about

never watched it as a kid

Cardcaptor Sakura is about a young girl, Sakura Kinomoto, who discovers a book containing 52 mystical Clow Cards and unknowingly breaks the seal holding the cards and the spirits withing them inside. By opening the book and reading the name of the first card on top, the "Windy" card, she accidentally activates it and blows away all the cards except Windy. The guardian spirit of the cards, Keroberos, tells her that she must become the Cardcaptor and retrieve all of the missing cards before they cause too much trouble. Joined by the guardian spirit, whom she nicknamed Kero-chan, her best friend (possibly lesbian) and costume artist, Tomoyo, and her new rival in collecting the cards, Shaoran, Sakura tries to recapture all of the Clow Cards, creatively using the abilities of the ones she has to help capture new ones.

This new series that just started takes place a few years later (she's 10 years old in the original and 14 in Clear Card) and starts when Sakura has a strange dream involving a mysterious cloaked figure. When she wakes up,, she finds that all of the Clow Cards she had collected are now blank "clear" cards and have been rendered completely powerless. She and her friends set off to find out what caused this and to restore the Clow Cards to their original forms.

Cardcaptor Sakura is a classic magical girl anime that relies on great characters, beautiful animation, and lots of pretty costumes (Sakura wears different costumes for each Clow Card capture thanks to Tomoyo's creativity and unusual desire to videotape Sakura in precarious poses) to stand out from Sailor Moon and other similar shows. It also banked on the "collectible" factor that other shows (like Pokemon and Yugioh) around the same time were using for popularity and merchandise sales. I personally used to own a replica of the Clow Card Book and all the cards inside, but it's long since been lost to time.

Yeah this is insanely good. It's done by Madhouse, and they're bringing their A game.

Also, this is written by a woman, and it has a lot of shoujo elements on top of it being a very like inoffensive magical girl series. Where all the other magical girls go even more over-the-top or try to cater to guys only, this one, she doesn't even really have a transformation sequence, does she? She just kinda changes clothes into something her friend made for her lul

And also because it was written and originally drawn by a woman... lots and lots and lots of flowers. Just fucking fuckton of flowers. Flowers everywhere as far as the eyes can fucking see. But goddamn it are the flowers beautiful

This was a childhood series when I was in Korea. Was massive there. Watched every episode... I think? Pretty cool, like I loved the card mechanic, though I was always sad she stuck to a few of them and didn't use a lot of the interesting ones
