Usually they just do HVAC because typing in periods takes time. Nobody would type it out H-VAC, though, because that makes zero fucking sense. Each letter in HVAC is an abbreviation, it's not two separate things. It's just said differently because it's faster to say it like that.

When I worked construction, one of the General Contractors would say it letter-by-letter as well (H-V-A-C).

I wasn't sure why they did it either, but we all knew what he meant.

I say "es-que-el" instead of "sequel", but I don't see the point anyway. "sequel" only saves 1 sylable and SQL isn't as straightforward as VAC is.
