Jenkins take on the Wonder Woman character has been praised for its powerful and non-sexualized depiction of the character, especially in contrast to the highly sexist depiction of the character that was depicted in Joss Whedons abandoned script attempt at the hero which was leaked online.

I don't even like Whedon and I have a hard time swallowing that his version was sexist. What, was there a shower scene with some teased nudity?

I agree with this call out but we must get to the root of the issue.

Instead of asking "how come out of the pool or male and female directors there were more males than females selected as nominees" we must ask ourselves "why were there so few female directors that were big names in the first place?"

We can't just shoehorn more minorities into the field for the sake of filling out quotas we must actually look at and deconstruct the social barriers that currently exist in the first place. What is happening in our society that is discouraging women from entering this job market in the first place and what social and political reforms can realistically happen to change the culture entirely?

Hah, good one.

I might give a shit once all the empty-headed celebs and feminists start bemoaning the lack of women taking up dirty labor jobs and skilled trades, i.e. non-glamorous, non-glorified work.

Female directors simply aren't getting the same opportunities that male directors do. Major movie studios go years without funding a single movie from a female director.

She lost but she was nominated. Maybe the directing didn't stand out to the voters like the screenplay did? Maybe it just wasn't as popular among them as it was among the people that gave the 100% RT rating?

It's possible. But the Oscars do have a reputation for giving awards to stuff that stick to the current status quo. Not sure if the Golden Globes have that same reputation but they probably do.

Women should make better movies if they want equal representation at the award shows for that category. There is no woman even close to Spielberg, Del Toro, Nolan, Ridley Scott, or Martin McDonagh, so Natalie is just grandstanding and waiting for liberals who respond to dog whistle rhetoric to tell her how brave and progressive she is. Her point was idiotic, and no one in Hollywood or the mainstream media has the balls to call her out on it.

The good ones certainly do get hired, but none of them are anywhere near as good as the top men. This is once again the liberal fallacy of not understanding the difference between inequality and inequity.

Patty Jenkins probably deserves a nomination, but comic book and sci-fi movies have historically been snubbed at awards shows.

Aside from Jenkins, the lack of female nominees can be chalked up to the general lack of eligible female directors, which really has nothing to do with the Golden Globes and their judging process.

I don't get this. It's absolutely a field that inspires less female interest than male interest and I fully believe actresses are more subject to more scrutiny and bias far more than female directors.

http://time.com/3855507/aclu-hollywood-sexism-gender-bias/

Many of these women directors have been told that they cant be trusted with money by studio executives, says Ariela Migdal, a senior staff attorney at the ACLU. This isnt just about stereotypes and implicit bias, its about blatant discrimination. We heard over and over again from female directors that theyve been told, This show is too hard for women or You cant do this movie, its actionthis to women who have directed plenty of action.

These ideas arent new: Cate Blanchett lambasted studio executives who are still foolishly clinging to the idea that female films with women at the center are a niche experience at the Academy Awards last year. Even former Sony co-chairman Amy Pascal said in 2014 that the whole system is geared for [female filmmakers] to fail.

You'd have to be wilfully ignorant, completely naive or just plain stupid to think that female directors get the same opportunities that male ones too.

Next you'll tell me that anyone can be a big Hollywood director and a lot of these jobs aren't dictated by personal connections to people in the industry.

By the way though, anyone concerned that the fabric of society is crumbling because of social justice warriors needs to take a look at history. Has there ever been a time that award shows like this haven't been used to grand stand social justice issues?

Marlon Brando refused to accept his reward and had a native american pick it up in his place because of his stance on the harmful way native americans were portrayed in film. And if your point is "but that was a legitimate thing to complain about", remember that the majority of people in that audience booed her off stage.
