Not entirely wrong. However, most of the affected nations became shitholes after the colonialists left, or got expelled. Rhodesia was an economic and agricultural powerhouse, before it became Zimbabwe.

Yet, while Democratic Republic of Congo is a shithole, Republic of Congo, just across the river, isn't so bad.

I'm a Haitian born here with both my parents having immigrated legally to the United States. My mother works full time as an LPN while my Dad is retired having worked since he immigrated to the country at 20. I have multiple family members here who immigrated and have contributed to society in various ways.

Trumps comments make me angry because my parents have worked their ass off and have given me a great life and great oppurtunity that I likely wouldn't have gotten in Haiti. I'm 26, work full time as a facilities assistant and graduated college and none of my family have ever gotten in trouble with the law. I don't care if i get modded, f*** your bulls*** and generalizations. Yes, Haiti is not in a good place right now, but I guarantee there are people in that country that want to get out and give their family a better life and would contribute to society just for that.

Sure, but the issue here isn't just that.
On one level, it's the choice of language. I wouldn't accept my lab assistants to talk like that, let alone my president.
On another level, he told Haitians that he was on their side.
And on another level, the US is the reason El Salvador is so fucked up. We fanned the flames of the civil war and we introduced gang culture into the Salvadoran's that we then sent back to the country, starting the whole MS-13 problem.

I think it did hurt him. He got 47.5%, 48.2%, and 47.2% in MI, PA, and WI in 2016. More often than not, that won't be enough to win. More often than not, you aren't facing Hillary Clinton.

If they do lose in 2018, then yes.
More specifically, if we make it another year with no major legislation passed (like 2017 except for the tax bill) then we have a lame duck for the next two years. So no major laws. Also, if no Supreme Court dies or resigns, then they can just vote no or pull a McConnell from 2019 onwards.
Most of what Trump is doing that is bad comes from appointments and executive orders. These are easily repaired, as we saw how quickly Trump was able to damage Obama's.

I have high hopes if we have a blue wave this year that we can fairly easily repair the damage assuming a 2020 Dem president who doesn't crave bipartisanship like Obama.
