You really shouldn't be taking more than 800mg a day, and you shouldn't be taking it everyday without instructions from a doctor.

This. I'm told it's bad for your kidneys if you 1) take too much or 2) take it too often.

You can get 800mg ibuprofen prescribed by a doctor. They are not meant for one pill to get you though the day.

I will agree that you shouldn't be taking it daily though.

Hopefully you don't have gout, TC.

Inuprofen is extremely bad for your kidneys. I'd almost recommend drinking over taking it >_>

I would say take 400mg (2 tablets) up to 3 times a day. It's a great drug, but hard on your kidneys, so I wouldn't over due it if you can help it >_>

Just checked the bottle, and the maximum recommended range is 800-1200mg in a single day.

2400 mg, with lots of food

You can do this safely, just not very often as to protect your kidneys.

Source: Prescribed this dosage (well 1600-2400mg) for rental migrainea by a neurologist. Take it at first sign of a migraine and it almost always puts an end to it within 20 minutes.

Try to avoid using ibuprofen regularly though as others have said. I only use it for migraines typically but had to use it recently for an infected tooth.

If you are otherwise healthy it's not a huge deal to take 2000-2600mg a day for a short period (like a couple of weeks). When I fucked up a nerve in my back that was the only way I was even able to move.

Is that the normal 200mg pill? Just curious. I'll check my prescribed one when I get home.

Yes. Usually the normal pill is 200mg, but it will say on the front of the bottle.

When I had pneumonia back in 2010 AND 2011 I had no choice but to take them every like four hours. I knew it was bad, but I couldn't drive to the store with a 103 degree fever.

We regularly give patients ibuprofen 800 mg PO q8 hrs, which is the max recommended daily amount (2.4 g)

General best safe practice is to administer the minimum effective amount. Start with 400 mg q6hrs and titrate up if it's not handling anything. Yes, there are potential long term effects on kidneys mainly interstitial nephritis, but it takes multiple years of round-the-clock NSAID usage to develop this disease. The more concerning side effects for young males are GI side effects and a bleeding diathesis.
