I didn't like 2, but loved 1,4 and 0. 2 is the one that everyone says is the best for some reason though.

are they all similar? I really feel like i would have heard of this series by now, its so goofy and fun but edgy and serious at the same time

if they all have good stories then I'm looking forward to playing them in order

They're all good imo, each for a different reason, but very samey feeling so don't get burnt out playing them all back to back. Especially the two Kiwamis since they're basically low budget collages made mostly with recycled stuff from other games in the series. Expect some janky-ness. Still fun though. And even though the original 1 and 2 are on PS2, they still hold up pretty well. 1 has some camera and control issues though, but it also has a dub which is pretty funny. Here's a video of the dub

Each game has Kamurocho but most usually have a new second city with Yakuza 5 having like 5 cities total. Kiwami 1 only has Kamurocho, but to be fair, that city was the only one in the original Yakuza 1, which Kiwami is a remake of.

1, 2, and 3 all star Kiryu who uses the DOD style from 0 for every game, though he does unlock new moves and abilities with each game. 4 and 5 introduce new protagonists and they all have unique fighting styles. 4 has 4 characters, Kiryu and 3 new people. 5 has 5 characters, Kiryu, some from 4, and two new ones. 6 is back to just Kiryu though, but on a different engine and with a new combat style.

Story is pretty good in all imo. They start to get pretty goofy though, like MGS style, especially by 4.

A lot of people don't like the story for 5 but I really liked it, mainly for how it shook things up for Kiryu.

im down with a goofy story. the series sounds awesome, I'm pretty excited to get involved. I'll take your word for it and space them out though, because I get burnt out on things easily.

I still need to finish Y0, but so far, Yakuza 2 is my favorite one in the series.

Y4 & Y5 have multiple characters, and maybe it's because they didn't focus as much on Kazuma, but I didn't like them as much.

anyway, Y0 (from what I've played, Y1, and Y2 are great games, and Y3 was alright, but I wasn't really feeling Y4 or Y5 (though this is an unpopular opinion)

I don't like it either. However, the content and zaniness of the games are quite nice IMO and if you don't like them you should duel me

tbh as long as all of the games have the same zaniness I'll love em. i knew the second that I started singing karaoke with my brother in 0 that this series was for me

Yeah they're easy to get sick of but easy to come back to because the stories and gameplay are always pretty entertaining.

Majima is better than Kiryu in 0 anyway.

I felt exactly the same way at first but the new characters all won me over pretty easily. Kiryu has the most fun combat though imo, but that's because he's freakishly good at everything whereas the new characters are either strong and slow or fast but weak or whatever.

Also I agree with this. Kiwami feels like it lacks the polish of 0 but also lacks the charm of the original. I still like them but I prefer the PS2 games to both Kiwamis. I'm a fanboy though lol so I'm probably just overly critical.

But Kiwami does have some added new scenes which really add to Nishiki's character

What's with all these Yakuza topics lately anyway? It's good that people are getting into such an awesome series but 0 and Kiwami came out last year so I thought 2017 was the year of new Yakuza fans.
