Retribution for the victims.

Deterrent whether in general such as to keep all people from doing a crime so as not to end up like the guy that was sentenced. Or specific deterrence for an individual repeat offender with gradually increasing punishments for repeat conduct.

Incapacity in that the person is just a menace to society, so if he is incarcerated then at least he cant do anymore harm while he is locked away.

Rehabilitation is an effort to make the offender a better person when he is released.
