I have 131 and I have like a crappy video of my cats and a music video I don't even own that I put up in like 2006 or 7

It depends on the kind of content you upload, how often you upload it, and to a smaller extent how much luck you have.

I do no-commentary playthroughs of weeb games, and I managed to gain a thousand subscribers in about 2 years (starting at 50 with some random videos I had made in prior years). One thing that gave me a boost early on, before I even started monetizing, was that one of my videos showed up as a recommended video for an episode of Game Grumps. But most of my subs these days come from people looking for videos on the latest games. If you can consistently start a series within a week of a game's launch and upload on a regular basis, it's pretty easy to get a few hundred subscribers in a couple months.

I've thought about making one myself, but I have no idea what I'd do for incentives. All I can offer is a game playthrough, and I can't guarantee I'll finish it if I don't know anything about the game.

I hate when people do play throughs, speaking as a gamer. I don't have it in me to watch more then a few episodes. Especially since so many streamers will start a dozen games and only finish 1 or 2. Or they finish every game and its nothing but that one particular game every upload for 2-3 weeks and if I'm not interested in the game I'm just not going to watch any of it.

I'd rather a YouTuber give 5-6 30 minute uploads a week of them playing whatever's hot that week and then stopping, saying whether they think it's good so far and if they'll finish off screen and they'll start another game next week.

I hear you. It's why I want my channel to be diverse, but it's a little hard to do with my work schedule and all, lol.

I totally understand. I know my videos aren't for everyone. Hell, I myself don't like watching no-commentary videos. But there is definitely a market for it. I get comments thanking me for my work all the time.

Sometimes people don't have the time or money to play a game, but still want to experience its story (every single game I do a full playthrough of has a plot). Other times someone is just looking for a walkthrough, even if that's not specifically the point of my videos. Some of the most viewed videos in any given series (second only to fetish material because anime) are the ones that cover difficult or hard to understand segments of the game.
