It doesnt prevent the big boys but doing this will make it harder for small people to get ads which means the amount of video traffic youtube needs to sift through will be much lower. This also makes it harder for people who want to try the dead body stunt - generate controversy to bump up their popularity - since high view count videos but low subscribing wont work... well wont work until you get 1k subs then its fine to make those videos.

Youtube making more shitty policies, what's new? This is why I quit youtube long ago u____u

Not sure this is Logan Paul related.

Youtube basically finding more and more ways to pay people less and less because google knows they have a monopoly on the market and can do whatever they want.

They are also making it harder and harder for small channels and directing their focus at big channels because that's where the big bucks are made.

I know another reason this is being done is as an anti piracy measure, with the theory that people won't create a new channel and put up pirated content because they won't make any money off of it and their channel should be taken down before they reach the minimum hours and subscribers.

It doesn't and they don't want to. The Logan Paul situation probably made them a lot of money. Youtube got to cash in on the original video, the outrage videos, and then the apology video.

It's in response to 24/7 Family Guy streams and shit like that. Monetizing creators was stupid in the first place, we should've fought advertising instead.

I don't think he was. I think he just got to the point where he could make money, but then this rule change happened. And anyone who was not making money, was affected by this rule. Anyone who was already making money won't feel the effects until Feb 20th... Of they don't meet the requirements...

YouTube is such a fucking joke. They squeeze everything now, practically. No creators seem like they do well anymore. All it's going to take is a somewhat enticing competitor and it's going down. Nobody thought Yahoo would fall because of Google, but it did, so there's precedent anything is replaceable.

Advertisers having sticks up their asses is part of it, but they need to get over it. Nobody thought "this company endorses this video's foul language" until them and YouTube kept pointing to that connection as a reason to demonetize it. Fucking "old world TV logic" screwed the internet because some fucking geezers refuse to get with the times...

It's worth chump change, and if you were going to make money, it's not going to be enough for it to be a job, or even supplement your income until that level anyway.

Not early on, no. But once you get enough subscribers and views, and we're getting views constantly, you could eventually make enough to substitute for a job. It's all about how many views you're getting. That's the thing.

Huh, I just checked my account. Apparently it says I'm eligible for monetization, despite having only 8 subscribers and no uploaded content.

For people who don't understand why youtube is doing this...

Youtube doesn't want you watching small channels because they make less, or no ad revenue off of those.

They want you to watch the big channels, which they make the most ad revenue off of, because advertisers pay the most to have ads on those channels.

Youtube has been pushing this for years since google purchased it, it has nothing to do with Logan Paul, and using him an as excuse is frankly in poor taste.

Years ago they already implemented and are continuing to implement multiple "features" to try and "convince" users to watch big channels rather than small ones.

Some of these include...

No longer having the subscribers feed the main page, instead having the recommended videos page the main page.

The recommended videos algorithm being changed to heavily favor videos that make youtube the most money rather than videos that are recent or the most relevant to you.

Shoving the "trending" page in your face whether you want to see it or not.

The suspected intentional removal of many subscribed channels from showing up in your subscription feed which google claimed was a bug, but did nothing to fix for users.

It is not related to Logan Paul at all. It is related to advertisers not liking the types of videos their ads were played on, Elsagate, and copycat channels.

The change related to Logan Paul only matters if you were already making bank from YouTube. Channels that qualify for Google Preferred ads are strictly monitored by a human team.
