But we're going to get paid... Pay is good through February 1st and if you have Navy Federal or USAA and somehow the shutdown lasts longer than that, they'll probably pay us on time, too (they have in the past!).

Nah, the government would furnish back pay for the time that wasn't paid, and USAA will take that. So they're basically paying you in advance, but they won't take money back from you.

Yeah, the military is classed as "essential", so you'll still get paid. A lot of government employees won't though: most get an unscheduled unpaid vacation, a lucky few get to work for free until this gets sorted out.
And, of course, Congress still gets paid, because I'm sure you were worried about them.

If you have to be paid to want to protect your own nation, your heart wasn't really in it to begin with imo. They're already getting free room and board aren't they?

Well shoot apparently the Commissary is shutting down for this though.

btw I lied this year they're doing it as loans - up to $6,000 and potentially only stateside. But it's interest free and free of any hidden charges.
