This happens so often that California just can't be trusted to properly vet their pistachios. Maybe it's time to open up the Iranian pistachios industry to the US and see if they actually know what they're doing.

I don't know how that's even possible, but I admit I don't know how tough maggots are, maybe they're competitive with tardigrades.

We export these pistachios literally all over the world though, so ENJOY OUR MEALWORMS. In fact I think the only country that beats us in pistachio exports is Iran.

We test our incoming food so we don't have your shit.

A perfect example of 'murican incompetence is that US eggs have to be chilled to avoid salmonella while UK eggs are never refridgerated as they're actually tested for disease.

If it's in our shops, it's because it has been tested to not regularly have meal worms. You have packs of meal worms because the good ones are the only ones we'd allow in.

Which means that particular brand meets your quota for not having mealworms which means your pistachios have exactly as many mealworms. OOPS!

You do realise that a Honda Civic is different in Japan, which is different in Europe which is different in the US, right? That brand has to send better product for export to meet regulations.

You honestly think that pistachio company produces different products for the UK and the US? I guarantee you they just produce a product that meets whichever country has the stricter threshold. If you can't see why there might be a bit of a difference between quality control variations of a $20k car and a $10 bag of nuts I don't know what to tell you.

You honestly think it's difficult to package good nuts for export and send nuts that don't meet the standard to the US public? It's less wasteful, stuff that would be ground down for animal feed here can be sold at a premium to you, it's cost effective.

Yes, you need an entirely different quality control processes to increase your quality control standards. Simply increasing those standards across the board is cheaper on bulk products than having separate pipelines for each of the 200 countries you export to.

They have higher standards, they just choose to put the stuff they'd have to pay to dispose of in your bags so they can profit on waste product. Remember, all of Europe is held to the same standard.

You're also forgetting that eating irradiated, cooked mealworms isn't actually a health risk. It's gross, but having them doesn't put you at risk for disease. I will guarantee you that if you start eat American pistachios you're at a similar risk to encounter mealworms (can't speak for Iranian pistachios because I still don't think we can get them here unfortunately)

Like I said, a meal worm in your pistachio doesn't meet acceptable levels of insect matter in food, as you know by your refusal to have them. It doesn't matter how healthy it is, it's still not to standard.
