I still don't know entirely what's going on. I'm level 17 fighter, main pawn is a level 17 mage.
I spent like 2 hours researching the other classes and just decided for my first go to stay a fighter since it suits my playstyle. I have a ranger and strider rented.

The last thing I did was ever fall below gran soren.

I feel like theres a lot to know to really understand this game. Half the food I loot spoils and I'm not sure what to do with it before it does.

The game doesn't really tell you what is story and what is side stuff, so i feel like I'm aimlessly wandering between stuff all the time.

Fuck wolves.

Such an odd game. I enjoy it mind you, but it's fucking weird.

You kind of just start to figure things out by the quest structure. Some escort quest is not part of the main plot while going to raid some enemy base that has been built up in story is. Everything on Bbi is it's own separate thing.

Anyway, bbi is amazing and one of my favorite gaming experiences the first time that I played and didn't understand that I shouldn't go there as soon as I was able. I remember fighting some giant skeleton for like an hour. Unfortunately, it over levels you for the main game.

Eh. You'll eventually get the point where you have massive amount of ferrystones and a massive amount of portcrystals scattered everywhere around Gransys.

I do like the wandering aspect myself, but the entire country of Gransys is way too samey. Especially if you're doing multiple runs.

Does it always take 30+ minutes to get anywhere?

Judt made the trek to shadow fort for a quest, and i hate that by the time I get to wherever my quests are, it'll be almost night time, my squad is operating with 50% health, etc..

I put a port crystal down outside just so I could go rest and recover, then come back and reclaim my crystal lol.

Plus, towards the end of the journey, I saw a big ass dragon walking around with a bunch of groups of goblins and hobgoblins. I noped the fuck all the way to shadow fort.

Not true. I went in there without knowing I wasnt suppised to at the beginning. Came pretty far with 10 min battles vs wolves and running from stuff but the first boss is unbeatable. Came back all the time though throiugh the course of the game. Beat it before beating the main game.

O.o A few jaunts through the Everfall plus the weapon awarded at the end of the main quest should be more than enough to handle BBI.

Once you've played for a bit, you get a good idea of where to put portcrystals around the world.

Typically I put the first one I find at the chest scar on the hill a bit to the north of Gran Soren and I keep one at the rest camp on the other side of the quarry (near the Shadow Fort w/ the goblins). These two extra places to warp to in addition to Gran Soren and Cassardis give you pretty good coverage. From there I put a portcrystal at the Bluemoon Tower entrance, and one on the other side of Soulflayer Canyon. By that point you can basically warp all over the world.

So the more I play the game, the more I like it. I sold that monocle they give you for 300k which came on handy.

The fully upgraded cutlass has been doing work. Got my fighter to rank 7 so far, level 21, those advanced skills do work. Can't wait for dragon's maw.

But the more I play, the more I feel the game lacks focus. Like it's trying to do a bunch of things and it's very hodge podge. It's trying to do monster hunter meets dark souls meets elder scrolls meets lord of the rings and its all over the place some times. Still fun mind you, but it lacks focus.

Keep doing your Wyrm Hunt quests from the dude outside the castle and they lead you to most of the places that I mentioned. Each place he sends you for those 4 quests are pretty good places to put a portcrystal tbh.
