Favourite metal sub genre?

that's pretty tough to say tbh, I feel like I've been listening to a lot more proggy stuff lately. I rediscovered between the buried and me after several years so I've been listening to them a lot, but I also always stay listening to black and death metal stuff a lot. my fav metal bands are the number twelve looks like you, btbam, protest the hero as of late. they've all made some albums that I'd consider 5/5

the silent circus is my favorite album by them, it still blows me away every time I listen to it. I found The Coma Ecliptic to be pretty good too, I used to listen to them a lot back up until they released the parallax albums which I thought were boring but then got back into them this year after giving coma a try. silent circus will never be topped imo but they're still great

most of my gym playlists are black and death metal and when I think about it most of the metal bands I listen to are some offshoot of those lol

Alaska was good too but I wasnt a fan of the production. I love the guitar tone on Silent Circus. I should listen to the album again. Its been a long time.

Did you listen to anything else on Victory around that time? Dead to Fall? Bury your Dead?

I mean a lot of it is metal core, but some of it was pretty enjoyable. Id say BTBAM was the absolute most technical and proggy though

at one point I really liked alaska but then I realized I only really liked a few songs lol. it's still good but the production is a huge issue and there are some forgettable songs. I listen to silent circus pretty regularly again and came to really appreciate the drums too. I could gush about it all day tbh

I think I only listened to darkest hour for a little while there but nothing else from victory. I was really into the main black metal guys like emperor, mayhem, immortal, and death metal stuff like cynic and death and lesser known bands and I had found more bands that fused stuff. for metalcore I was really into still remains lol. I was on power metal before I got into stuff like children of bodom and wintersun/ensiferum

I think my favourite black metal band would have to be Dissection. Not sure I would call them straight up black though because they have a lot better production than most others in the genre, as well as having a death metal influence too. I was into power metal aswell. X Japan and shit like that.

Lately Ive been on a Celtic Frost kick. As well as Mercyful Fate.

Btw, apparently Slayer is having a farewell tour, which is long over due in my opinion.

nice, can't say I've listened to dissection before. I used to be fairly big on black metal but these days it usually is some fusion or I'll bump emperor or mayhem again when I'm feeling it lol. I'll check em out. I like akercocke a lot who did blackened death metal type of stuff. I saw that and agree lmao.

word I'll check it out. I have been trying to get into opeth a bit lately since I ended up liking morningrise a lot. akercocke's newest album is amazing, it's pretty incredible that after like 10 years they come back with some of the best stuff they've written. I assume you've heard of and listening to Voices then?

wow, I used to be so into Himsa lol. I loved Courting Tragedy and Disaster and Summon in Thunder. have you listened to john pettibone's new band Heiress? they're sludge metal but his vocals are still amazing

also had an in flames kick until I discovered their later stuff which turned me off, but colony and jester race

also I listen to a fair amount of jpop these days which is a good contrast for all the metal and hardcore on my list
